Sixx Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I always use a 2 - part urethane clear, I just am checking out other types, maybe for smaller parts & things of that nature. Can't beat a clear coat shot with an airbrush!!!! my opinion
eviltwincustoms Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Why not buy a qt. of clear and the hardener for it? In the long run, It's got to be cheaper than spray cans. You can't control the pattern or pressure with a spray can and most of the paint winds up in the air, not on the model. Yep, I prefer the quart and hardner... I like HOK Kosmic Clear and Dupont Chroma Clear, never ever had any issues with clogging my Badger airbrush. But you can't neglect tearing it all the way down and doing a good clean job. That is all I use is Auto Paint and Clear from HOK to HOT HUES... it gets expensive but it lays down exceptionally well with no issues of having to test if something will cause a reaction.
Bill Eh? Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I always love your rusty/crusty creations. In this case however, I sure hope that both of these beauties are going to remain shiny. Thanks for the tip on the Dupont Acrylic Clear. You do amazing work with your Iwata, have you considered decanting and shooting this particular clear? Thanks, I'm a huge fan with huge respect for your painting skills.
customsrus Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) Tha paint on both these are outrageous. Some day I will be able to paint like this. Edited November 13, 2011 by customsrus
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Thanks, folks . . . yeah, I might just try it again with some of the HOK clear I have here . . . it should work just fine . . . I've got to be brave. LOL.
GrandpaMcGurk Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Virgil, could you tell me where you got those figures shown in your first post? Thanks.

Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Thanks, Mark. Yes, that's what I use to followed by Airbrush Restorer from Auto Air Colors.
MachinistMark Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 whats the restorer supposed to do and how does it differ from say, lacquer thinner? never heard of the stuff
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 It works the same, but you can really clean it through and through and it's less caustic on your skin . . . of course wearing latex gloves it's important, but the lacquer will eventually eat through those.
MachinistMark Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Never worried about my skin, hell i use thinner to wash the paint off my hands. Its never bothered me.
Sixx Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Virgil, could you tell me where you got those figures shown in your first post? Thanks. Yeah, really!! They kinda look like Preiser, but I've never seen that set before? Oh by the way, when did those pics pop up????? That's not what I saw when I first read this post!?
Dr. Cranky Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Which figures? Where? Can you tell me? They are probably Preiser. They have a great line of ready-to-go figures.
