MarkJ Posted January 2, 2012 Author Posted January 2, 2012 Looking real good Mark. I'm looking for 'bad Brad' to do big things this year. I haven't heard who Penske plans to put in the 22 yet. I heard it was Almendinger. Hopefully he will be a better team mate then Kurt was.
MarkJ Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 I realized that the yellow rockers ,front spoiler and lower rear bumper were not a solid color yellow so I will have to make a decal for them so I needed a white base for the decals. I also touched up some other items.
MarkJ Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 I'm about half way through creating the decals for the model. I started at the nose and am slowly working my way back. There are so many decals on the modern cars. I did come up with a faster way of sizing the decals so that shoud help.
MarkJ Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 Finally got the three decal sheets done. Hopefully I can get them on next weekend.
Matt P Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 How are you dong the decals? they look great!!
MarkJ Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) How are you dong the decals? they look great!! Matt, I created them with an Adobe Photodeluxe 2.0 program and printed them out on an HP 4500 Office jet printer.I got the images from pictures from the internet. I used Testors white decal sheets and will cut out the images as close to the edge as possible. I will touch them up with some decanted paint, as necessary, and then seal them with future. Matt P Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Thanks Mark, I have never used the Testors decal sheets, but after seeing this I think I'm gong to give it a try. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this build.
MarkJ Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) The only reason I use the Testors sheets is because they are readily available at Hobby Lobby and with a 40% off coupon they are not to expensive. They are however pretty hard to work with . That is why i put multiple images on the sheets. If I mess up I don't have to print a whole new sheet. If you build a white car you can use clear sheets and you don't have to cut the image out exactly on its edge. Edited February 7, 2012 by MarkJ
MarkJ Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 Just to show the difference between a 1:24 scale decal and a 1:25 I found an old goodyear decal from a 1:24 scale sheet and put it above the goodyear decal that I will use that came in the amt snap kit I am using to build this model. Pretty big difference. An enterprising decal maker that does 1:24 scale decals could reduce his sheets and print them as 1:25 scale. He could offer both sizes to his customers.
MarkJ Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 Finished decaling today. All I lack is installing the roof antenas and sealing the decals with future this Thursday. After that I will take the final pictures and call this one done.
MarkJ Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 The decals turned out pretty good but the bleed through is pretty bad even though they are white sheet decals. I have decided to print three more sheets and do another layer to improve on the bleed through problem.
MarkJ Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Finally finished. Pictures are in the Nascar section of the forum.
Jeff B Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 What a transformation, nice work. Feeding my desire to start building Nascar again.
MarkJ Posted June 15, 2016 Author Posted June 15, 2016 Thanks Jeff B. for resurrecting this thread. I had forgotten that I had posted wips to this site of this car back in 2012. Brings back good memorys.
