maltsr Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Having built eight of these kits already, thought I would do something different with this one. Using the latest version of the kit, the '64 Fairlane street machine, I was able to select the non-teardrop hood, because this is no drag racer..... Instead, out came the hacksaw and off came the roof I have already decided on the colour but not sure about the wheel/tyre combo yet.
Erik Smith Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Nice idea. A convertible will be cool. I just finished a lowered version of a 64 'Bolt - one of my favorite Ford bodies. I like this kit too. I have built two and noticed a couple inherent fit issues but otherwise is a great kit from the reemergence of Revell.
walt francis Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Wow ! that looks funny without a roof, it makes the windsheild look super tall.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Wow, what a beauty. Even in raw styrene it looks great.
maltsr Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 Dug this out from the pile and made lots of progress. Managed to resolve the rear tulip panel to take the 1964 1/2 Mustang convertible boot cover. While I was at it, I adapted the rear seat and doglegs from the same kit to the Thunderbolt's interior bucket. Front seats will also come from the pace car kit. Paint is an auto paint metallic brown from a spraycan, still needs some work to make it shiny. Comments welcome.
Hiusken33 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 sweet what engine i puting in it a 427,428 or 429 would be sick keep up the good work paul
Erik Smith Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I like the color, a lot. The boot and seats too - really nice combo in there. The door panels might need some attention though. On the HT/T-bolt you can get away with the limited detail - on a convertible, I think it will stand out. They just look so flat and featureless. The chrome trim will really stand out on that dark brown. Should look fantastic.
Bartster Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 You have my attention! Groovy conversion. Engine?
Rob McKee Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hi Paul, I love it! Nice work on the rear seat conversion and as usual, great paint job. Do you need a 427 for it?
thom hoos Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 For the engine why not something modern say Iike a 4.6L DOHC out of the 2003 mustang corba or the 5.4L DOHC out of the super stallion.
maltsr Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks guys. I had already decided to go with the kit's 427 (thanks anyway Rob), plus I forgot to remove the fender emblems before painting For the engine why not something modern say Iike a 4.6L DOHC out of the 2003 mustang corba or the 5.4L DOHC out of the super stallion. I have yet another T'bolt planned, and yes this will include a modern motor (I have a Super Stallion one somewhere).
martinfan5 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Great job on the engine, very nice, looks great Paul
maltsr Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Hi Jonathan, thanks for that, must dig out my SLS AMG soon!
martinfan5 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I got the wheels for the merc, just need to get the P/E set next and I will be ready.
maltsr Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Got this one finished tonight. Wheels/tyres are a Fujimi wire wheel set, I added some photetch door handles to the interior, but the rest is OOB. Posted to "under glass"
CanadianKronik Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 nice build, im thinking of getting this kit soon.
charlie8575 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Gee, I missed this before. That came out nicely. Too bad Ford didn't do the Fairlane convertible from the factory, it looks good like that. Charlie Larkin
