Guest Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Hey Gregg, just wondering what the latest is on your back situation. I know what it's like to have back issues, have a couple myself, and just hoping things are getting better for you.
Guest Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I was thinking maybe others here on the forum would like to know how he is doing. It's been some time since he mentioned anything in the magazine or here.
Mr. Moparman Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 That's what his avatar is! I have been wondering what that was...
Gregg Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Thanks, Lee. I went through another round of "glow-in-the-dark" specials last week, MRI's with contrast, few more x-rays, and more trial meds, but nothing as of yet. It's getting worse, to the point where walking is more than 10 minutes puts me down for the rest of the day. They haven't ruled out the sixth surgery, where they would more likely than not go through the front to fuse the front of the spine, and then go up and down one level with more cages. So as of right now, no news, just more tests, more meds, and a major loss of memory. I even got denied long-term care life insurance because of all this. But, at least I get free parking!!!!!!
Peter Lombardo Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Wow, and with over 32 thousand posts, I would have thought you had Carpal-tunnel syndrome too. ( ok, a feeble attempt at humor) I am not telling you anything you don't have first hand knowledge of, but back pain is the worst physical ailment there is. You just don't appreciate pain until your "back goes out". There just isn't any movement you can make with your body that doesn't affect your back. Sorry to hear that it is not getting better..........that just stinks. Hang in there.....like you have a choice not to.
Sixx Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 That really sucks man, I " know " exactly what you mean. 20 some odd years bustin my butt on the railroad did me in!! Febuary this year I got a four-level fusion, now that it's cold...man, I creek & crack every step I take. My right leg always feels like it's in a giant blood pressure cuff, pumped to the max. I hope you feel better soon, you been dealing with this for awhile.
Guest Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Sorry things arent getting any better my friend. I will keep you in my prayers. Back issues aere a rough one to live with.
Gregg Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Derrick, that it is a good description of the leg. My right leg is numb, has been for the better part of 20 years. Mark Jones and Jairus will tell you stories about me pulling out all the hairs on my leg, without feeling a thing, and then trying to show them that it doesn't hurt :-) I usually got whacked on the head for that.... The left leg is like that cuff, with a 20lb weight on it, plus the numbness, fire, and oh yeah, the falling down when your body realizes that heh, stupid, your leg ain't following you where you want to go!!!! The worst though is not knowing when you are going to be able to move again. Sometimes I can get so medicated, I forget that heh, stupid, you can't be doing that, and then, yups, you guessed it, the body realizes that heh, stupid, it's gonna hurt, BIG TIME!!! And then you're down for two days... I am ready to just give in, and let them cut again, going through the front. But, we'll see. I don't want to give up that free parking though.... okay, I pau....
MicroNitro Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I feel your pain. I am going in for more neck surgery soon and am also on the better living through chemicals plan. As I always say to myself hang in there it sure beats the alternative. A funny story (or maybe sad). I can't feel my left arm or leg. I was grinding on a oval window front pan years ago. All of a sudden were I was grinding started getting all wet. I stopped grinding and wiped some of the liquid with my finger. I said to myself "self that looks like blood" and looked down at my ground up left hand. On the way to the doctor My wife said she did not think it was so funny.
Gregg Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 am also on the better living through chemicals plan. Jim, I like that quote, I'm glad I thought of it!!!! Wish I kept my Oval Window, wish I had kept all of them. Every single year from '55-'72 (6 or so '67s alone). Six Vans, two Squares, one type 3 Ghia, and a half dozen or so Rabbits, and the worse one to let go, a '59 Ghia.
Guest Johnny Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 When I can't move my legs any more then they will get another chance to cut, but not before! I have areas that just the slightest touch will send me up the wall it's so painful. Cold areas that are semi-numb (explain that to the doctor) and after standing 10-15 minutes a burning/cold feeling that keeps growing until the whole upper leg is numb to the touch but yet giving intense pain! The ache that starts in the lower back that travels all the way to the soles of your feet and loss of control of the legs and almost the bladder! Fun stuff huh?? Then the feeling that is always there like a spike being drove into the bottom of the foot. The physical therapist called it the "pebble in the shoe" syndrome except it feels more like a sharp BOULDER!!! I can sympathize with you 100% Then add in the pain from bad hips. Even the one that was replaced still hurts. They said it was a form of rejection and the only alternative was a ceramic hip replacement. Said thanks but no thanks! Getting ready for the second hip to be done SOON!
Sixx Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Gregg, man don't let em go through the front!!! Google Dr. An at Rush in Chicago, he did mine, says should be no reason to do it that way. He's in the top 3 in the nation for spine surgery, also takes care of the White Socks & other top Chicago teams. I've also read that The Hospital for special surgery, that might be wrong on the name, in New York is the # 1 in orthopedic surgeries. I almost went there until I found Dr. An. Man Gregg, I hope you find some relief soon. D.
