While watching reruns I seen (Hyde) with a finished 69 charger inwhich the box is in plain sight is a 2000's issue kit. same as the spitfire plane kit used in another episode.

I'll bet all they were looking at was the car and plane kits themselves, they probably didn't even think somebody would notice things like period incorrect box art or even the kit itself (as in using the Revell Charger instead of a General Lee or F&F Charger.)

Only a sharp-eyed model builder would ever notice that!

Ah, but did the castmember build it or a crewmember? also with the shows budget they could not splerge and bought a vintage kit? or even a kit with a retro box art?

Honestly they most likely didn't even think about that as it was such a small part of what was going on. Or if they did decided the average viewer would not know the difference so why spend money they don't have to!

I remember a movie scene and on the corner is a 64 or 65 Valiant with Later model Rallys on it! For the period that it was set in they would not have existed yet. I missed it but oddly my Wife didn't!

Depending on when in the 70's that episode took place, they could have just used a General Lee reissue with the box art or just have done like Round 2 now is and create a vintage looking box for it.

i imagine the continuity editor suffering a mental breakdown trying to make sure the kit build (if, indeed, it is a plot device) follows the instructions at least by stages, if not step by step, considering how scenes are filmed and refilmed.... there's a movie (i can't recall the name) that follows the main character restoring a car as a major plot device. i bet there was a full team of continuity editors at work....

was it Mr Destiny that starred Jim Belushi as a baseball player who had a chance to live his dream life, and his "real" life hobby was building model cars?
