W-409 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 My latest completed build for 2011. Maybe two more coming, if everything goes as I've planned. This is MPC kit, which was '50 Mercury when it was released, but round 2 release was from '49 Mercury! So this can be 1950 year model. I got this for free from Model Car Contest, and I started building from the interior. I used Humbroll brown colors, and some satin clear coat. I painted the dashboard like wood, and steering wheel too. Nothing special on the detailing there. On the chassis I changed the tires, because those original ones were hard plastic. I fitted those kit wheels and wheel backs on those new tires. Chassis plate was painted as many colors as usual, even if it was molded very simple. I also built new axles from brass (those what go inside rear axle cover, you know.). Body needed bit bondo, but after that I primered it and painted with Maston gloss black. Then decals... They were pretty hard to instal correctly. After clearcoat, I had to paint some white over the decals, because there were some cracks and so on. But then some waxing and BMF. There were some problems with the final assembly with the headlights, and antenna, but not so big things anyway. Here it is, the final result: PLEASE, let me Know, what you think!
Draggon Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Well, thats a great job on this thing! Mine is sitting in its box, I found out how most everything doesnt fit correctly!
W-409 Posted December 17, 2011 Author Posted December 17, 2011 Thanks, Randy! Not so much extrawork on this one, but you are right, it paid off. Thanks, Glenn! Yeah, there were some fit issues, and I was just wondering, how anyone can build this kit without glue? Box top says that No Glue or paint needed... I can't understand, how is that possible. Thanks, Danno! That year model is the best, I've heard, because it feels like nobody knows, what this is really. '49½ sounds good.
bsoder Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Hey man..I think that's pretty darn cool!! B)
W-409 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks Brian! This is just my style-Old School, and shiny. Fun kit to build, even if it's really simple.
W-409 Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 Thanks, Ron! I'm not sure, but it might be my best model so far.
manymodels Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 very cool, reminds me of the copcar from the cars movie
W-409 Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 very cool, reminds me of the copcar from the cars movie Thanks, Jacob! Do you mean Cars 1 or Cars 2 movie? I've seen that first one, but second one needs to be seen... From the first one I can't remember cop cars, but I haven't seen the second one yet.
