91blaze Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) Hey everybody, thought I would start my first post with my latest build. This is the first model I've made that isn't completely stock OOB. It started out as the AMT 1951 Chevy Bel Air. I made this to replicate my Dad's 1952 Chevy. The only mods I made were: 350 Chevy small block from Ebay (real one has 355 with over 400 hp), first time wiring engine, hood scoop made from putty, exhaust with sidepipes, side posts from putty to replace the ones made into the side windows, front grill inserts from putty, and some Draglite wheels from Ebay to replicate the real one. Also tried to make some decals for the rear window and license plate but only the licence plate worked. This was also my first time making flames on a car so it needs work. I'm slowly trying to get better so feel free to make comments. I've only used Photobucket pictures on Craigslist so I think these should work. (Sorry only camera I have is my crappy phone.) Real car: Model: Thanks for looking, I know it's nothing compared to other models on this forum but I'm trying to get better. Edited December 22, 2011 by 91blaze
Harry P. Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks for looking, I know it's nothing compared to other models on this forum but I'm trying to get better. That's what it's all about! Welcome aboard!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Yes, what Harry said, but also the more time you spend on the forum the more tips, techniques, and skills you will pick up!
george 53 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 You made the car you wanted, an THAT'S the only thing that counts John. I used the 52 Chevy Deluxe body from MCW it is a body just like the post coupe you made. It was my first car, got it from my Dad, and my Big Brudder and i put a 283 Chevy with a 2spd Powerglide! GREAT car!
Sixx Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Pretty cool, I had a 1:1 52 chevy years ago...bone stock, straight 6, all white, beige interior, necker-knob. It was a styleline deluxe, 2 door, I miss that old car. Your dad's car is a killer!! Welcome to the best forum anywhere!!!!
62rebel Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 that's a pretty good start for advanced bodywork and fabrication of parts. not to mention, that's a fiddly kit to build out of the box! it was state-of-the-art in the late '70's when AMT released it and the other '51 Chevies it shares parts with... your flames look pretty good, your detailing looks believable; as the Mythbusters might say: "Plausible!" keep at it!
W-409 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Really nice Chevrolet you have there. It just looks like, these pictures don't make justice for that build, it looks spectacular in live, I guess. 1:1 car is nice too, where did you find those wheels? And when I joined this forum, I wasn't good builder. Well I'm not great builder now either, but I've learned lots of new skills and tips how to improve from this forum. Hope you keep on building, and posting these models too.
91blaze Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks for the comments everybody. I've actually learned alot from this site and hopefully Ill be able to apply some of my gained knowledge to my next project. In hindsight I should have removed the side trim but I was rushed to finish before the car show we were going to. Forgot to mention that the visor is made from putty and I also put in some bucket seats from my parts box, don't remember what model though. Might have been the 2007 Mustang but I'm not sure. The wheels are Weld Draglites from Ebay. Here's the link not sure if there are more for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-24-Weld-Draglite-Wheel-Set-Prostock-Drag-Cars-/260811530063?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb9941f4f#ht_500wt_949. As for the comment about the kit not being too great... lots of flash and parts were warped including the hood as you can see in the front picture.
towtruck Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 very nice model & real chevy...been building models since about 1965 an I live by one rule when building models....like what ya build an build what ya like...'nuff said !
'08SEAL Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Yes, what Harry said, but also the more time you spend on the forum the more tips, techniques, and skills you will pick up! That's what it's all about! Welcome aboard! They're right. Ever since I have been here, November, I have picked up plenty of tricks and have gotten way better in building.
91blaze Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Maybe a cool build but too bad pics to see Sorry everybody about the bad pics. Once I get some money saved up I'm going to try to get a descent camera. I'll be sure to post new pictures when I get a camera.
91blaze Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) Finally got a camera so here are some new pictures: Edited March 9, 2012 by 91blaze
Mike Kucaba Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Put that model in a display case and refer back to it every so often to see where you've been and how far you've come!
91blaze Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Definitely will, this is the only model I have in a display case so far, that's how much it means to me.

I've been building for years and I'm still not a master modeler. Probably never will be, but best of all, I'm having fun. That's what it's all about. Congrats and welcome!
