ZombieHunter26 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 (edited) Late Xmas gift from my wife: Can't decide between shiny or post-apoc build contest... decisions. Skill level 3, produced from vintage tooling. I can choose to build stock or drag body, and stock or cobra engine. Thoughts? Edited December 28, 2011 by ZombieHunter26
Mr. Moparman Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 SHINY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 The only thing i do not like about this kit is the colored lime green plastic. Yeah, it makes me want to primer it out already... but some assembly, sanding, and bur/excess mold plastic removal first... I'm thinking of this as a test of my patience LOL. The lime green hurts the eyes almost...
Dirkpitt289 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I can go either way. Shiny is great but almost everyone does shiny. Personally I would like to do a Stocker. I haven't seen many of those. I have a few photos if you want...
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 post away, I'd love to see em. I've decided to go shiny, but not the tradition 'out of the box' shiny. I'm thinking "I just got a whole ton of money, and the real '68... and I'm gonna customize!" kind of shiny. I'll start posting pics as I go.
Dirkpitt289 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Here you go. These were originally two of the original 68 KR-8 Mustangs but were later converted to look like Shelby's. Cool as hell if you ask me.
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 MMM. Now that's a sexy drag car. Speaking of, I also decided to go with the Cobra engine build. Much more powerful. I need to take some pics of the engine once I get it assembled and painted.
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 I took some photos with my wife's phone, only to find that the resolution doesn't do my paint job justice. I've completely assembled and painted the engine, and the interior. the body and hood are primed. I will be borrowing my dad's camera hopefully tomorrow so I can get some pics up. (I work fast, so I find it hard to keep it slow so I can give you WIP pics >.< ) I promise I wont finish the assembly before you get to see the separate sections and the detail on them. On a related note: The interior color scheme is crimson, black, silver, with orange and green custom instrument panel lighting. I'm still cooking up an awesome body paint job
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Look for photos to be up some time later in the night. Engine/Chassis is built, Interior is built, and the body has been given its pre-decal/fine detail coat. I will be posting pics of all the separate sections so you can see the full details before final assembly and chrome pieces. I should be finished with this build later tonight or early tomorrow Now to think up a name for this custom build.......
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 I'll apologize in advance for the fuzziness of the pics, but you'll get a good idea of what I'm doing Interior, crimson floor panels and steering wheel, deep red upholstery inlaid on black leather, brushed silver instrument panel, custom orange lit radio buttons, and custom green lit gauges. More past the break...
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Cobra Jet 428 engine with chassis and tires. Still more coming...
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Underside of chassis, showing drybrushed details and finer engine details. A few more to go...
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Body shots Jet Black with silver trim, lettering, and door handles. I think there's a few more stashed somewhere...
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Better shot of the decal work- I actually layered the decals because the GT 500 on the red stripes were too dark to show, and I -really- wanted the red stripes. Overhead rear shot. Hood. I was delighted to find that the rectangular area I needed to cut out to allow clearance for the Cobra Jet's big ol' air cleaner was pre-etched... making it a little simpler to keep my lines straight and my placement true. And before anyone asks, I will not be adding a hood scoop because A: The kit didn't come with one and I don't feel like scratchbuilding one and B: I think the air cleaner looks better out in the open, in all of its shiny chrome glory. That's about it for now, I'll try to take better pics for the final assembled piece. 'til next time!
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Really? No one wants to comment? I mean I enjoy building for the sake of building... but it's nice to see what people think.
Reeves Racing Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Your pictures are terrible, too dark and too blurry... Probably why nobodys commenting...
Dirkpitt289 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I'm all about the Mustangs myself but like RR said its hard to comment when the pictures aren't there or of such a quality that you can't make anything out.
Rob Hall Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I don't have this issue of this kit, but love that shade of green on the 1:1 versions. My first build of this kit in the '80s was molded in red, which I painted black. I later got a couple of the reissues from maybe 10 years ago molded in gray. Neat kit.
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Your pictures are terrible, too dark and too blurry... Probably why nobodys commenting... I will be taking some better pics of the finished build. I'm working with a small screen 5 mpixel camera at close range at the moment... it's hard to get the good details right now. My larger scale diorama didn't have this problem, as the details were larger, and could be seen a bit further away. I understand that the pics are crappy at the moment, but I promised interior pics before final assembly. The end result pics will be better quality.
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Build is finished, save for a little polishing up later. I'm gonna be taking it over to my Dad's place and letting him give it a look in person before I post the final pics up.
Maindrian Pace Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Try taking the pictures outdoors. Natural sunlight makes all the difference on dark colored cars. -MJS
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Time for the REAL eyecandy! Meet BLACK VENOM, the 1968 Shelby Cobra Mustang GT500. She's a sexy, sexy lady. More after the break...
ZombieHunter26 Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 You know me, still got a good bit more to come!
