mikelo Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 As some of you may know, I have a job working at the Kenworth Chillicothe assembly plant. I would really like to do a model of one of the trucks we make there (T8, T6, T700 and W9), but I can not find even a close to current kit of any of the KW line. Am I just not looking in the right places? I mean, I was figuring I would have to scratch build the DEF system, but the W9 kits I see have round headlights. Are there any resin parts to update kits since the cabs haven't changed since the 50s? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mike
Jim B Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) Gary Wallace from GW Trucks offers a W900S, a W900B, and (2) different T800 cabs. You can send him an email at gwtrucks@yahoo.com. His W900 cabs are about mid-1990s. There are currently no cabs offered (that I know of) for the other T-Series trucks. Edited January 1, 2012 by Jim B
dad vader Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 P&P resin was producing a really nice W900 cab and hood kit,he is on here,if he is still making them I am sure he will respond...they are beautiful,I havent as of yethad the opportunity to order one yet as I would really love to build one.
jekylljr Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 t-600 t-800 and w900L and w900b basically all share the same cab with the wrap around windsheild, some have what they call daylight doors which means the bottom of drivers//passenger doors dips down for better vision for the mirror,....more or less for the convex mirror, but the daylight doors is just an option other wise they are same. i to would like to build a modern kenworth w900l and a t800....specially the t800 with the raised hood beautiful trucks im pretty sure the t660 and t700 are totally different from the t6 t8 and w/9 cabs
mackinac359 Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I think Bobby Griffen had an AeroCab with studio sleeper at one time that fit the Drennen/Freeman (now P&P) hoods? Kuenn McClinton had a resin T2000 several years ago, I haven't seen one of them in a long time. Tim
cowboysevens Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I have one of them W900L aerocabs with the big condo sleeper, I believe mine is all drennen/p&p. I heard a lil roomer a lil while back that "somebody" is workin on another cast for this awesome kit
chuckyr Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) Apparently most of the modelers on this board could careless about building a new KW W900. As long as AMT keeps re-issuing the ancient stuff, they will keep buying them. Just a suggestion, why not use your place a KW to try and get a modern KW truck subject as a kit. The photo below is a original Clinf Freeman W900L cab and hood conversion mastered by Bill Drennan, with Revell of Germany sleeper. The cab and hood are now available from P&P Resins. P&P is also suppost to offer a T800 conversion kit. Also Daniel Gailloux of Plaskit offers a series of modern KW conversions: http://stores.ebay.com/plaskit Edited January 1, 2012 by chuckyr

My hood looks like that but I have the one peice aerocab aerodyne sleeper
Porky Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I have the W900L straight cowl complete conversion wit the cab and hood, the cab has the two piece windshield,,,I do have the W900L curved cowl hood for the cab with the one piece windshield but am not offering a cab for it right now, the studio sleeper cab mold is killed and I am not remaking that one. I have a day light window B-Model cab in the works to go with it but not sure when it will be ready fro sales, still dont have the master cab finished,,,I will have a Bill Drennen T800 in the next month or so, will make the molds for it as soon as I have finished converting Bill's B-Model cab to the day light window style to go with it. Just let me know if I can help you with the W900L straight cowl conversion.
cowboysevens Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) you mean one like this. Yes sir that's like the one I got , except mine is a copy somebody made from drenen/ppvintage and its a lil bit ruff lol. I got it off evilbay for $50 so I figure for that price I can clean it up Edited January 2, 2012 by cowboysevens
scale trucker Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 yeah i bought about 10 of them on evilbay and cut them up to fix all problems then i cast that one in pic..still needs alot of work.
chuckyr Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) ...except mine is a copy somebody made from drenen/ppvintage... One reason Clint Freeman got out of the after market resin business. We will be waiting. Also make sure the T-800 hood has the external breather option. Edited January 2, 2012 by chuckyr
