crazyjim Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Here's my last build for 2011 and it's an out of the box build. I can't remember the last time I built anything box stock. Anyway, I started with HOK orion silver, laid down some tape, shot HOK galaxy grey, pulled the tape, shot the top of the car with Rustoleum colorshift, then a couple coats of HOK kandy purple, and finally finished with several coats of clear that were sanded, polished and waxed.
Erik Smith Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Cool Riv - nice paint - the grid pattern breaks up the paint and adds interest but not over the top. Nice build.
crazyjim Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 Thanks Eric. I used drywall tape for the pattern.
carchub Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Awesome idea with the drywall tape! That looks so awesome!
crazyjim Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 Not an original idea for me, Roland. Maybe it was Dr. Cranky I copied the idea from. Either way, the stuff has sticky on the back. Next time I'l try shaping it, maybe some pinstripe edges, and fading. Thanks for your favorable comment.
John Teresi Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Jim.......beautiful build.........one of my favorite cars.......thanks for sharing.
crazyjim Posted January 2, 2012 Author Posted January 2, 2012 Thanks John. The Riv does does have some very nice lines to it.
LAone Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 looks great jim. i dig these old rivies. i really like the color on yours.
crazyjim Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Thanks guys. It's a nice kit. There's another one in my inventory that will be built as a custom.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 The graphics are most certainly cool. Great colors and the interior details fit it perfectly. Nice work.
crazyjim Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Thanks Doc. I'm pretty sure I stole the joint tape idea from you.
TheCat Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Jim, that's a great looking Riviera. You should build more Box Stock. You did a great job on this one.
crazyjim Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Thanks Felix. I think that'll be my last box stock build. I actually feel guilty about no flocking or engine details.
TheCat Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I know what you mean. I don't any longer build model cars without detailing the engine compartment myself. It just don't feel right. LOL
Dr. Cranky Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 It's always a great idea to keep stuff handy that you can airbrush through, use as a template. I can't wait to see what you cook up next, weather permitting!
