Yup, while the vehicle will be polution free, compressing the air to fill those tanks will require electricity or some form of combustable fuel to operate the compressors.

Fire shouldn't be a problem since there is no fuel in the tanks.................now if there is a possibility of an electrical failure and related fire.............0_o

What happens when those freshly-filled air cans rupture in a crash? Do they shoot the driver out through the roof and into the stratosphere?

Electrical fires are what Tata cars are best known for. Most of the time, they never even make it from the dealer to the owners home.

As far as the pollution created/energy consumed by the air compressors needed to "fuel" the car... it's the same argument that applies to electric cars: If you own an "electric station" that sells electrical charges for electric cars, you use X amount of energy to create the electricity used to charge the electric cars... but the cars themselves (assuming they are pure electrics, not hybrids) cause zero pollution.

If you own a gas station, that gas in your underground tanks also used X amount of energy/caused X amount of pollution to get to your tanks, but every single car that fills up also causes it's own amount of pollution on top of that.

If you plug in numbers, it's pretty obvious that if we all drove electrics (or air-powered cars) there would be less pollution/less energy consumed overall.

The days of our cars being powered by gasoline burning internal combustion engine are definitely numbered, IMO. Not sure what will replace them, but they are going to be replaced. Maybe not in our lifetimes, but I'd guess certainly before this century is over.

Beats me, I have heard of wrecked Chevy Volts catching fire post wreck, but unlike fuel burners, they tend to give the fire and rescue guys a couple days to get people out of the car when they wreck them that bad!

Now that I think of it, I wonder how well a compressed air-electric hybrid would do in comparison to a gas-electric or diesel-electric hybrid................

How do you propose we create the compressed air without generating any polution? And if you say electrically, where does that energy come from?

Photovoltaics. Would work a treat in Las Vegas, too. Yes, I know, solar cells have to be manufactured, too. But so do nuclear reactors.
