bill_rules Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 But we haven't discussed 100 watt bulbs yet.
martinfan5 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 60 watts are cheaper to use , and what about CFL's , lets not forget about them either
Rob McKee Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Do you also think the drinking and smoking age laws are ridiculous too? Well all know it sucks being underage, we all were underage at one time or another, but its not going to change, and soon you will be of age so it matter anymore to you. No one is saying you have to like the laws, but they are in place for reason that have been stated. Yes it does suck that the bad apples have ruined for the good people like the ones that are on this forum, but here is a secert, the bad apples have ruined a lot of things, and you will find this out the older you get. The easiet way around this is have your parents buy the spray paint for you, then you wont have to deal with " unfriendly employees" I agree on your statement about being underage. Completely. And no, I don't disagree with every law. I think we may have had some confusion on this heated topic. I just feel bad for a kid that wants to build a model but cannot buy the supplies because of a few bad apples. Rob
martinfan5 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Rob, I feel bad as well for him, and every underage modeler, its not easy for them or the employees that have to deal the public trying to buy the stuff that they are not old enough yet, thats the point I was trying to make. I was not trying to start an argument with you by the way.

I was not trying to start an argument with you by the way. I think we are all cool here. I am in my 40s and just feel terrible when kids are treated poorly because of a few bad apples. As for laws. I have 2 really good friends that are cops and they don't agree with every law. Perhaps I would look at this differently if I had someone in my family who suffered huge damage from inhaling paint. Anyway, I wasn't trying to start anything here either. group hug now
martinfan5 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I have known a lot of officers over the years, and yes they dont always agree with the laws either, I understand why the law is in effect, do I agree with it 100% yes and no. I agree with it because it makes it harder for the bad apples that want to miss use the stuff, and no becasue it makes it hard for underage modelers to get what they need for their models. But the he can still have his parents buy the paint for him, so he still gets what he needs.

Harry P. Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Lock it Harry!...it seems like to me we are just getting into a pissing match!...(pardon my english) If I locked every thread where we had different opinions there would hardly be any threads left! I don't see anything said here so far that would earn this thread a lockdown.
martinfan5 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Thats one of the nice things about this place, Harry gives us room to have debates like this one, not everyone is going to see eye to eye on everything, if so then the world would be a boring place( maybe safer though).
scalenut Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) some years down the road.. you will look back and this will all seem trivial... trust me. the world is full of "it's not fair" situations no matter what your age as you said , you can still get paint elsewhere anyway. no harm in venting Edited January 9, 2012 by scalenut

Austin T Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 I am surprised it took this long for that part to be brought up, so we have a teen who is mad that one clerk would not break the rules for him, but finds one that will, so then comes on here to complain about the so called " rude Kmart employee" There isn't a law about selling spary paint to minors where I live,It was just k-mart's policy.Roses does not have the same POLICY as k-mart,thus I was able to purchase primer from Roses.
Rob McKee Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I can only chuckle now. I really do love this site though. I have met a fellow modeller from New Zealand through it. I have had some great conversations with some great people online here. And I have seen some unbelievalbe talent and skill from so many of the modellers on this site. Thanks Harry for letting us be who we are and not locking this thread.
martinfan5 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Austin, I know there is not a law in your state, thats why I said breaking the rules, and not law. You have to forgive as I have been on the side of having to deal with people that wanted to get something that they were not old enough to purchase yet. And after while the way you act towards them could be consider rude or unfriendly, but sometimes you have to act that way . Is it right, maybe not, but people will and do love to cause problems when they can not get what they want. I am not saying that if the clerk was rude to you was right for him to do.
Harry P. Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Rob, a little friendly debate never hurt anyone.
Rob McKee Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Rob, a little friendly debate never hurt anyone. You are right Harry. Now what about those 100 Watt light bulbs. LOL

Guest Johnny Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I agree on your statement about being underage. Completely. And no, I don't disagree with every law. I think we may have had some confusion on this heated topic. I just feel bad for a kid that wants to build a model but cannot buy the supplies because of a few bad apples. Rob Well start with the trial lawyers that will be suing the store when a kid buys a can of paint and off's him or her self huffing it like an idiot! Those few bad apples do 1000's of dollars in damages and it seems maybe instead of the store or the government you might take it up with these kids parents! Bottom line Austin, suck it up. it's just how things are. We all had our "restrictions" when we were kids too! If the clerk was rude,(and you weren't out of line with the clerk) that is what store management is for and they will take care of it!
Draggon Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I'm old enough to remember when I stopped being able to buy glue at the hobby shop without a parent. I was thrilled when that "no tox" lemonny smelling glue came out. That was until I realized that my spit had more sticking power.
Harry P. Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I'm old enough to remember when I stopped being able to buy glue at the hobby shop without a parent. I was thrilled when that "no tox" lemonny smelling glue came out. That was until I realized that my spit had more sticking power. Well, yeah! The stuff that makes the glue "stick" (actually the stuff that melts the plastic, toluene) is the stuff they took out of the non-toxic glue! Kind of hard to make a glue that works when you remove the ingredient that actually did the job!
Rob Hall Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 The whole "no spray paint under 18" rule is in effect because many kids buy the stuff to either get high on, or to vandalize other people's property with. Do all kids do that? Of course not, but there is no way to have a law banning spray paint to those under 18 that applies only to some people under 18 and not to others. Nothing new here...stores have been doing that for at least 15-20 years.
