Jared Roach Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Since I finished up a few things lately I thought I would post this vw I started not too long ago. It's revell of germany's t3 camper. I lifted the rear suspension, used the front suspension from a gmc syclone. I scratch built the roof rack, ladder, front push bar and skid plate. The wheels are from a amt scout. Hopefully I'll have this one finished soon because I got alot of stuff I want to work on. Thanks for looking.
Gregg Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 When I first looked at the underneath, I was thinking, nah, that don't look right. But after looking more closely at the primered picture, you know, what, it does work. The only thing I would have tried would have been to put the transfer case right up next to the back of the VW auto trans, and then a double driveshaft to the front, with a carrier bearing housing. That's just my two cents, hope I don't insult you or make say all those nasty things about me everyone else says..... I like the idea, and it looks great so far.
Jared Roach Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Nah I appreciate the comment. Now that I think of it your idea would be better, but I'm just gonna leave it. I really don't know much about vw's so I just tried to imagine something that would work. I like constructive comments, helps me out.
Tony T Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Cool build. Syncro was available I believe, so not outside the realm of possibility. Nice build so far. Is that the kit with a blue camper on the box...if so, I have the same kit...I like the idea.
RodneyBad Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Looks Great. I like how ya made it 4wd. Seen this one in a Home Depot PL and wanted to build one like it. THere are some nice Australian Veresions out there too.. I was thinking of using the Tamiya Porscha 959 for the 4wd stuff..
84vanagon Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Very cool. Please keep us updated on this one!
Jared Roach Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 Hey thanks guys for the comments, I appreciate it. So I got quite a bit done lately on this thing. I got the chassis done, the interior started and I got the body painted. I think I'm gonna weather this one just a little bit when I'm done. Thanks for looking.
Erik Smith Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Very cool. I have seen one running around Spokane lifted like that - the whole lower half of the body is Rhino lined. Nice work.
LAone Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 this is pretty cool man. i like how you did your drivetrain. its coming along great, keep it going.
Jared Roach Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Hey thanks guys. I just got it cleared today so hopefully I'll have more progress on this soon.
Dominik Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Hi Jared, as owner of a T3 Westfalia i look over your work. Sure. The idea with the 4WD is a cool one. Yes, it was avalible to this Car, but very very rare ordered with the camper. Looking good so far! @Toni T: it doesn't matter, witch color the van has on the box. It is all the same inside. I have the first kit of the early 80th and the newest. Complete the same stuff inside. Only the decalsheets and wheels were changed. If you have the blue one, you couldn't have stock rims - if i am right.
