martinfan5 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I dont know if this happens to you guys, but it seems like everytime I am on one of the modeling forums (not SA though) I see a kit that someone is doing and then I have to add that kit to the wish list . Love the eye candy, but I can not keep up with all the kits that I want to do , thank goodness for tax time and getting money back ,I think I am going to going on a small shopping spree( if the miss's lets me)
JamesW Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 That's kinda how I aquired most of my kits. I see one on one of the forums and I just have to get one. I'll admit I'm about at the end of it though. I've been cruisin Ebay for the past 2 weeks and nothing is jumpin out at me. I just need to order some detailing parts and stock up on paint and I'll be set for a while (til something new comes out that I just HAVE to have). LOL I'll be getting my spray booth in April and then I'll be good to go.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Yes, it's kind of addictive, and there's nothing wrong with getting kits you see someone else doing. I think it's a normal reaction where your imagination kicks in and you want to try your hand at it. Some kits are better the others, and that's a lesson we all learn along the way, so you eventually accumulate lots of kits and then you end up culling the batch down. It's an ebb and flow type of thing.
Greg Myers Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 That's what it's all about. All the model info you can digest. Gone are the days of constantly checking with your local hobby shop to see what's new. You never knew if something new was coming in the next day or the next week. Then you'd go to a show and see something you'd never seen before and wonder how you missed it. Not any more. Stay tuned for all the model news, right here.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Greg has a very good point. You can track stuff down instantly depending on your building mood or desires.
cruz Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I belong to 2 great clubs and it's even worse than what the forums can do but it's a great motivation tool!
Junkman Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I experience the opposite effect. When I see what you guys can do, I'm tempted to sell my collection and never touch a kit again. For example, what John just did to that 1:12 Bentley kit makes me want to take mine and toss it into the rubbish bin.
wraith Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 If seeing someone else's WIP doesn't make me go buy that particular model kit, it can get my ideas flowing about what to do to a kit I have collecting dust. Or to redo someting I have already done!
martinfan5 Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 I am really not complaining at all , I already have a list of kits in my head that I want to get, and it seems like everyday I see someones WIP or finished build, I think to myself, I should do that one too, its never ending , it keeps me going, and I know I will never get bored or tired of it. I am agree with what Greg said as well, I love the insparation and the eye candy, and I even have done some kits that I most likely would not of done if not for seeing a WIP or finshed build. Its more of a so many kits, not enough hobby money for all them at one time
oldscool Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 To me the downside is spending too much time online and not getting anything built. gus

There's always something new to build, whether it's a new kit or a new idea.
Old Sprinter Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I scratch build most evrything so I don't buy kits (maybe a couple of balsa wood airplanes once in awhile), but I am totally with Junkman. I build some race cars that i think are amazing and I say to myself "Kenny boy, is anything you can't do". Then I go on this site or a few others and see what the real guys can do and i want to throw all my junk away and find another hobby.
Johnag4004 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I'd love to but the huge lack of finances stops me...
