For those of us over 50, and you know who you are! LOL! New technologies are constantly arriving on the scene. I know that in the last 10 years or so I've learned quite a bit about digital cameras, etc . . . but ultimately I am not as tech savvy as I should be.

There are folks here (Harry P.) comes to mind right away who seems to be very comfortable (if not to say up to date) with Photoshop and other software, computer savvy indeed.

Just curious to know what or how you do what you do to stay up with the techno games and advances.

Personally, I am always looking for ways to make model related things (like photos) better and easier, etc . . .

Its scary Doc...I know silver photography in and out. I've been enjoying digital imaging for the last ten years now, But just discovered DNG /RAW format for shooting, as the "norm" JPEG images are compressed and altered ...not at all what you see...Thanks to PS and lots of storage and memory....I can manipulate images just like back in the Dektol and Pan X days.....Color....Even more saturated than old K2 or Fujis offerings.

Yessir this old dog is embracing the new age...but my eyes do get tired from all the reading.

Will I still shoot silver ? In my Hassy and 4X5 view....but I am getting spoiled with digital...took years to learn how to preserve my chromes and negs....now its a backup every week!

Well, for some reason my camera takes pictures, and they are transferred to my computer when I connect a cable. I can then upload them to photobucket and post them here with an 'img' link.

I'm technically so retarded that I will do nothing that could possibly disturb this setup. Never touch a running system.

I have yet to own a mobile phone. I have no idea how they work or what I'm supposed to use them for. I sometimes have the impression I'm the last man walking this planet who has never used such a thing.

All my cars and motorbikes still have carburetters and I am not inclined to ever own one where they replaced it with witchcraft, or where the camshaft is driven by a rubber band which renders me penniless when it snaps.

I never watch the telly, because I find it is an insult for any intelligent form of life, but I can watch video tapes and DVDs without having to ask my daughter to start the machines for me. I can make my own DVDs from video snippets I have on the 'puter with Nero Movie Maker. And they work in other people's DVD players, too.

I am unable to tell the time when looking at a digital clock.

My primary source of information are ancient obsolete ROMs on cellulose basis. They are written in a code comprising only 26 different symbols. Its called the alphabet.

I gotta say that I can do some things, but others take some doing...as for being tech savvy...I can't keep up...My flip cellphone has one option that I do put to use regularly and that is the "off" button!! My 3 kids are more savvy than I am and my youngest recently bought an iPhone and gave his iPod Touch to my wife. They're happy, as am I!! There are supposed "technological advances" that are not really looking like advances to me, especially when it deters human interaction and conversation. But I'm "old" so what do I know!! (I'm 49 going on 5 (yes, five), by the way!) :)

I have to tell you, I don't consider technology extremely advanced.

I said I would never buy a computer until I could just walk into the room and say,"Hey Computer". They don't have that yet.

Cars have been manufactured for over 100 years and the panel behind the wheels still gets road dirt splashed onto it.

Just walk outside and you can see millions of miles of ugly electrical wires strung between poles, nothing changed there in over 100 years.

It will still be quite awhile before we are able to buy the "It Box".

One little box that will transmit and receive any data from any source though any Provider in any language in real time without being forced to view a 45 second commercial.

How dare they tell me," You're video will resume in 45 seconds", when my video hasn't even started yet.

I'll be 50 in April & I finally broke down & got a cell phone in November! Still figuring it out. That's how I joined & communicate here on the forum. Our computer is not hooked up to the internet, but I don't know how to use it anyway. I would love to share my builds with ya'll but I can't figure any way to do it on this phone!? The last bit of technology I truly mastered was a ball-point pen, lol.

You gotta have some youngsters around. Mine got me into a cell phone lots of fun (and usefull) texting. "Dad, you gotta get rid of those 8-Tracks, Cassets, CD's" well anyway as tecnology moves on so do I with the hellp of my kids.Oh yeah I got an I-pod for Christmas. WOW! It takes a long time to get all that music on there.

I'm 41, like to think I'm pretty tech savvy...I work as a software engineer, so I've been comfortable around technology and gadgets for decades..always been a bit of a gadget fan..going way back to my first cell phone 15 years ago (remember the Motorola Star-Tac? The 'brick phones'?) Have a Motorola Droid 2 now...had laptops since the mid '90s and my first computer was a Commodore 64 back in the 80s...iPod, iPad, DVRs, Blu-Ray, HDTV, digital cameras, etc...been there, done that..I remember switching to CDs from cassettes in the late '80s, DVDs from VHS in the late '90s (had a Beta VCR way back in the '80s), etc.

I'm 36 years old. I've never owned a computer. I got my first cell phone when I was 27 and my current phone was $15. I never post photos of my builds because I don't really know how to. I hate new technology because I struggle with it. I struggle with it because I hate it. We all got around just fine for thousands of years without all this fancy stuff and I'm doing just fine now. If I were rich, I'd certainly get me a smart phone and a fancy computer. But right now, I don't need a computer bad enough to justify spending hundreds of dollars on one.

I think having an inquisitive spirit also helps. I don't know to what extend computers, phones, and other gadgets keep us mentally sharp, but I figure it's best to err on the side of trying to learn.

What does technologically savvy mean?? Does that answer your question Doc?

Nope nuthin nada. I get my daughter to do stuff for me on the computer. I've owned a cellphone for 15 years easy, but still can't text. Don't really want to know. why text when i can call. It's really just another way to take your money.

I have a high IQ & it came from a desire to learn all I can. For some reason, when trying to transfer that desire to newer METHODS of learning, my desire has turned to frustration, then fear. I no longer go to the library because they replaced Dewey decimal system card catalog with computers. It's like learning a different language, and even though I know that language is more relevant now than any other I can I could learn, I can't muster up any desire to learn it!

I only advance my savviness on a "need to know" basis. If I don't know how to use a device and I NEED to use that device, that's when I need to know.

My experience also started in the '80's with a Commodore 64, but I was the hardware geek and my wife was the software guru. Notice the difference? I was a geek and she was a guru. Wassup with that?

In all seriousness, I don't go looking for trouble. I wait for the need to arise, then wrestle with it as best I can.

I'm the only kid on the block without some kind of technology. The most technological thing I have is my cellphone, which I use ONLY for calling, no texting and all that...

Which brings up something I heard the other day, a rumor involving GOOGLE and some of the other larger internet companies about blacking out for one day to protest Congress trying to pass any of these new Internet laws.

I wonder what would happen if we really had a few days without computers or the internet.

Gee, wait, isn't that the premise behind all these new Post Apocalypse movies?

The same thing would happen, that would happen if no one got gas for a day....we would start right back up the next day..

Everyone seemed to be able to survive without them quite nicely back in the 20th century. I have a feeling most people felt less stress and were generally happier with their lives back in the 40s and 50s than most people are today. Many people have become slaves to technology; these days many people can't imagine being able to survive without ther smart phones and GPS systems and whatnot. I cringe every time I see someone sitting in a fast food joint or in the waiting room of a doctor's office or auto repair shop or wherever, sitting there and constantly playing with their cell phone. Some people seem to be addicted to the stupid things and can't sit still for a minute without doing something on their phone. I wonder how people who have become so dependent on their cell phones manage to shut down at night and disengage from all the "social media" nonsense and actually go to sleep!

I would concider myself savvy, but I dont jump on the wagon like most my age do. I just got an iphone 4 days ago. its neat but I dont know if I like the connected feeling of having the internet in my pocket. Thats why its taken me so long to get one. And I'm thinking I was right

Harry, that's an amazing point. And have you seen those sleep-aid drugs they are selling late at night. Lots of people are stressed out, on the verge of anxiety attacks, etc . . . perhaps--if you are as paranoid as I am--it's all done on purpose. I know they are blitzkrieging the new generations to keep them totally unstable with all sorts of marketing and useless information, etc . . .

When I'm in a restaurant and waiting on my meal, I find myself reading Twitter updates, checking Facebook, reading Gmail....even checking modeling websites on my phone. I do try and put down the phone once the food is on the table, though.. :) I also remember back in the 20th century reading paper 'newspapers'...haven't read one of those in years in paper form.
