David G. Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I shop at my LHS because if they don't have a kit I want in stock, they'll order it for me... and I don't have to pay ten dollars postage on a twenty dollar kit! David G.
brad4321 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Why? Why support a system that offers less selection and (generally) higher prices than a system that offers virtually unlimited selection, generally lower prices, and 24 hour convenience? I really don't see why so many of you insist we "support" a business model that has obviously been surpassed by a better system in every way. Is it nostalgia, maybe? Wanting things to be the way they used to be? Or the way we are used to them being? I don't know... when I add up the advantages of online shopping vs. shopping at the LHS, to me it's no contest. I like walking into a store, looking at a selection, and going home with something ... now. I hate shopping online. If I run out of a supply, I like going the store and getting it vs. placing an order and waiting a week or more. What about that process says "24 hour convenience"? Sometimes I go, man I need a new kit today! I don't know what I'm going to be in the mood to work on 7-10 business days from now.
Swifster Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 I haven't been to Phil's yet. I stopped at Hobby Land here in Lakeland to buy paint and just left pissed off. Lots of empty bins and those that were there where in the wrong places. I ended up going to Hobby Lobby. Back to depressing...
