Fabrux Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Ever have one of those ideas that just won't go away until you try it? Well... The blue body is from a 92 GT convertible. I had tried to remove a bad paint job but it didn't work so well. I still have to get rid of the paint, but I'm going to try brake fluid this time. Anyhoo, all the white bits are from an 85 SVO body. I'm also going to attempt to build a 92 GT hatch from the leftover bits.
Chris guthro Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 My favorite style mustang other than the 67-68 fastbacks! cant wait to see this progress!
Fabrux Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Okay, wow....I last did anything with this over three years ago! I had the idea to build an SVO convertible but wasn't happy with the convertible body I started using as it had failed paint job on it that just wouldn't come off. I stashed the project away in a box, waiting to get another convertible body. Fast forward three years and two moves and I finally managed to grab a built-up convertible kit for $2. My body work skills have advanced some since then so I'm hopeful I can pull this conversion off this time. I started with the easiest part: the nose. I got the wheel wells lined up this time, something I couldn't quite get last time. As you can tell from these pictures, the windshield frame from the built-up broke during disassembly, so I had to graft on the frame from the other body. Hopefully my next update will be before 2018...!
Olskoolrodder Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 LOL,I have projects that happen like that (reboxed and then weeks turn into years) too That's a neat idear (that Ford shoulda built in 1:1 back in the day),can't wait to see more!
Fabrux Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 Progress! I've gotten the rear bumper and lower rear quarter panels in place, as well as the driver's side lower body. Apologies for the pictures; it's dark out. I've gone back and filled in the holes for the rearview mirrors as well as levelled out the trunk lid. The donor body had the luggage rack glued on; it will not be going back on. I've also applied my goo on the inside of the body along all the seams, hopefully to fill in the little hairline cracks and add strength. The body is warped a bit; I'm hoping I can work it out.
66belair Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Gonna follow this one close,I've always love the SVO Mustangs, they were way ahead of their time.
