Rob Hall Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Speaking of FWD race cars, the Chevy Cruze has won the WTCC championship the last three years..
moparmagiclives Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) I bet that will take one heck of an extension cord !!!!! I think it would be cool to see two cars lined up with 1320" of 220v cord coiled up behind them !!! LETER RIPP !!!! And its a built in safty shut down when the cord stops Edited January 19, 2012 by moparmagiclives
fumi Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Japanese web sites have stated the Prius GT300 has a 3456 cc V6 mounted midship, as well as the stock Prius motor, battery and control system. It's not the first time Toyota raced a hybrid machine, just not as high profile as in Super GT. They have tried it with the GS 450h in endurance races before, which has a similar 3.5 V6 hybrid setup. With the stock GS 450h rated at 339 hp, a race tuned system shouldn't have too much trouble fitting in the GT300 class.
Swifster Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) Electric cars and hybrid cars are just for publicity. I can't stand them. No one aspires to own a poopie box. And that's all these are. I'd take a Chrysler 300 with a hemi any time. Actually, make mine a Challenger. I don't want stop/start technology on it and I don't care if it doesn't get 56 MPG. That 'race car' does nothing for me. Low end of the race car totum pole for me is super touring (BTCC). If the Sierra Club wants to go racing, make it for them. Edited January 19, 2012 by Swifster
Joe Handley Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'd have no problem driving a car like the Volt on a daily basis, could get away with only running on electricity for daily use and just plug it in to top off the pack every night with the slow charger (which would be better for the pack anyway.) A Hemi Challenger would be nice to have as a play thing, but probably would be just as useless as a typical hybrid in really bad weather....which my Jeep would shine in compared to those

With the limited parking spaces, the crowded streets, the price of gasoline and the way the registration fee/insurance is structured in here I have absolutely no use for a Chrysler 300 with a Hemi, I wouldn't want one if someone were to give it to me for free. But I certainly love my Ford Fiesta with its 1.4L engine that more than meet my needs. Will I buy a hybrid or a electric car? If it is the best available option then I don't see why not. I really don't understand this anti-effeciency mentality. If they can make more power when it is needed while burning less fuel and putting out less emission, what's to hate about it? That 'race car' does nothing for me. Low end of the race car totum pole for me is super touring (BTCC). You do realize Super GT is a notch or two above touring car races, as far as the totum pole goes. Edited January 20, 2012 by fumi
Swifster Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 If you lived in the US and had to drive from one coast to the other, somehow I don't think you'd want to take a cramped tin box vs a roomier car. And while our gasoline is still artificially inflated (in my eyes anyways), it still isn't as inflated (taxes) like in other parts of the world. If there truely was a fuel shortage, I'd worry about mileage more. Until then, I'd take a nice V8 powered car anyday. And yes, I'm aware Super GT is a few notches above. I just have no room in my life for electrics or hybrids.
001slick001 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I think Andy and Tom need to go test drive the hybrids before they go dissing them.If you can find a Tesla dealership i think it will completely change your option. The Tesla is a fast car.I wish they would make a model of it.Go to Honda and try the CR-Z.The cool part it doesn't look like a hybrid car.The thing you need to remember is if you want your big v8 muscle cars you need the auto company's to make these cars.Don't get me wrong I love muscle cars. That's why I build models.I drive a Toyota Yaris to work, it's an hour each way.It gets great gas mileage.I may be small (in your eyes)but I can go to home depot and get 12 bags of mulch in it.That being said all the Chrysler's I've ever had have fallen apart. The morel of this post is don't go hating on something till you get all the facts.
whale392 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 August, Andy can't even drive, he is 13. Take his ramblings at face value and nothing more. He couldn't test drive anything but a bicycle, skateboard, or heelies. Having driven a Prius (first-Gen unit) for a short time, the double-start sequence threw me until I got used to it. I am all for fuels and horsepower, but if the electric/hybrid thing is for you, the cars are ok. I just think it is humorous that all the hype about their 'Carbon Footprint' being so low is overshadowed by the (lost to the masses as it is never mentioned) environmental impact both creating and disposing of the batteries has. Seems that NO ONE wants to touch that side of their existence. As for them racing; why not? Logical step as they do contain some form of a gasoline engine (allowing them to be easily accepted into the racing community) and are generally very sleek by design. A low drag/slip co-efficient coupled with high power output makes them a natural. Add in traction/downforce/cooling enhancements and go for it.

Sure. Hybrids are fine for the city or whatever, but not for racing. August, Andy can't even drive, he is 13. Take his ramblings at face value and nothing more. A low drag/slip co-efficient coupled with high power output makes them a natural. Add in traction/downforce/cooling enhancements and go for it. Oh look, you again. First off, the freewheel on my bike broke, so I can't ride it. Never had an interest in skateboard. And what the heck are heelies? And these engines they have are too small for me. All I know is that I wouldn't want to be seen in one..
SuperStockAndy Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Dave-I can't fix the freewheel, the teeth broke on it.
whale392 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Yup, Andy, me again. If you would quit being such a douche and listen to people, maybe you would be taken seriously. You can't even fix your bike and you want to tell ME how cylinder head designs work and raise comments on how poor Hybrids are? Get over yourself. 20 years from now you will look back and see just how stupid you were (or still might be) and shake your head. Don't you have some plastic you need to be mangling?

whale392 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Then shut up and fix it, Mr Mechanic. I have none either, as you are just a 13 year old with NO knowledge and a big mouth. Tell you what Andy, you are close enough. Come over to the "Buckeye Scale Classic' show and you, your dad, and I can sit down and have a chat as to your online antics and manure-spreading.
SuperStockAndy Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 (edited) If you guys want to keep pulling this, I WILL take pictures. Tell you what Andy, you are close enough. Come over to the "Buckeye Scale Classic' show and you, your dad, and I can sit down and have a chat as to your online antics and manure-spreading. If you act like that in person, I'm not going. Don't like jerks. So, Bradley, why don't YOU fix that freewheel for me, since apparently it's such an easy fix? Edited January 20, 2012 by SuperStockAndy
whale392 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Because I have a CAR that gets me everywhere I need to go, Andy. And if you are the mechanic YOU think YOU are, fix it yourself. Remember, before you became such a little tool, I tried to help you here and even offered parts to you, but you said your 'daddy' wouldn't let you give out your address. Hide all you want Andy, behind any excuse you can. Until you grow up and accept when you are wrong, you will always be just a blow-hard kid. If you think I am a jerk, so be it. Jerks are quite often those who directly tell you the truth and your thin skin is just that, too thin to take it. I don't care if you come over or not, but I offered to civilly work on this. YOU want to hide, not me. Cry me a river, kid. Now go fix your bike, or haven't you 'studied' that yet?
Darin Bastedo Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 This is old news. As usual porsche has already been there and done that. Check out The Porsche 911 GT3 Hybrid...
moparmagiclives Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'm not really into Hybrids either, but I can appreciate the work and technology that goes into them, much like 4x4s are to me as well. BUT...this is something those of you that feel "electric cars" dont have a place on the track should check out. http://www.plasmaboyracing.com/whitezombie.php Hot rodding at its finest..... for the new age that is.
fumi Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 This is old news. As usual porsche has already been there and done that. Check out The Porsche 911 GT3 Hybrid... Actually Lexus entered the GS450h in the Tokachi 24-hour Race in 2006, 4 years ahead of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid.

Roadkill2525 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 There's also the Porsche 918 RSR hybrid in development.
SuperStockAndy Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Bradley~~I was trying to send you a PM, but I'm on your block list, so I guess you won't hear what I have to say.
