there's a couple of older RV promos out there, toylike, but a start; and then there's the Holy Grail; the Hess Training Van from 1980 and never been repopped..... i guess GMC wants too much in royalty fees for that one. other than that, pretty much anything you want is going to be scratchbuilt.

I would say the holy grail is the Normatt early '70's Winnebago. It's actually a large plastic kit. I've been trying to get one for a few years now. Every time they come up on the Bay, they go for crazy money.

I second the winnebago being the holy grail however it is 1/20 th scale .another related item but not quite an rv worth noting is the franklin mint airstream camper is hella nice but also expensive.

One of the casters over at DRAG has a couple . MAYBE if we asked real nice, we could persude him into tryin to cast one. I have two, and the interiors ARE defininately toylike, so we'd have to fab an interior IF we wanted to keep the price reasonable. But IF he gets enough interest in it, it MIGHT be doable. MAYBE. You guys think there's any interest in one? would it be worth his time? If we ask nice? :D;)

i'd like to do a model of my Fleetwood Southwind... i'd need a donor kit to provide the running gear and 19.5 wheels and tires, to start!

for the smaller rims in a kit look at some of the italeri trucks with racing trailers or the ones that came with a pre painted motorcycle.

i was thinking of scrapping a Hess truck if i had to, to get the tires and wheels in the right size.... hmmm... there's a Hess truck in the closet......

Actually, GM sold the rights, designs and tooling for their motorhome to another company about 1981-82. The Hess training van would be cool to rework--had a couple, almost did just that, but knocking one apart given its assembly with liquid cements turned out to be almost insurmountable, so I sold both of mine on eBay about 7-8 yrs ago.

RV's could be fun, but where to start? I for one keep hoping some mfr will come up with at least a slide-in, bunk over cab camper for a pickup.

older ones like mine are a challenge to do because of the ribbed fiberglass siding they have on them. newer ones are smooth single piece panels, front to rear, and except for doors and windows, could be fabbed up out of sheet styrene pretty quickly. BTW; it turns out that Hess truck tires are almost 19.5 scale inches, but the wheels are non-typical designs... and, Hess tires split with age, similar to tamiya tires....
