Tye Brown Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Hey all Who here hides there kits form their other half? I have a friens of mine who still gets in trouble off his 94 year old mother for buying more kits lol. I know I do sometimes man, I get some deliveries mailed to work & sneak them inside when the wife is in bed man Not that she has problem with me buying "SOME" kits but not "BOXES" of kits man LOL Who else has this problem lol..Come on where all friends here man Peace
Dwight55 Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 With my first wife that was a problem. She complained about it all the time. But things are better now, so I no longer have to hide "things" when I spend a dime.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 LOL, I know a couple of people who keep their stuff in storage and when they need something they go over and get i, this way their space is always pretty empty and doesn't attract suspicion!
diymirage Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 not here the wifey supports my hobby and doesnt mind me having more unbuild modes then projects and more projects then finished models she even has one or two favorites in my pile of projects she tries to get me to push towards the front of the line when they have fallen behind
Matt LeBlanc Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I don't have that problem either. My wife supports my hobbies all the way.I think i'll keep her.LOL
Junkman Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 If I had to hide anything from my wife, she wouldn't be my wife.
Tony T Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 No need to hide. My wife supports my hobby. I agree, Christian. I feel the same way!
Chris guthro Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 my mom doesnt like me ordering the $200 worth of models from modelexpress but it was important i do so but my dad on the other hand builds nand loves me being into the hobby as much as i am. but when we moved to the new place i cleaned all my stash out that i figured id never buuild and that were a mess. so now i only have my new ones and unbuilts. so my stash is only 13-15 kits now not including my big rigs
Junkman Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Get on the cover of a couple magazines and they tend to shut up. Yeah, if your face is on the cover of GQ, Forbes, or The Financial Times, they tend to generally argue less.
peter31a Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 While my wife supports my hobby, she does have concerns in regard to the number of kits coming in versus the number of kits getting built. As a result I don't do show and tell with every kit coming through the door. Some get sneaked (snuck?) out to the shop.
crazyjim Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I was going out with a girl for a time and we hit it off pretty well. When she discovered I rode a Harley, she didn't like it and told me it's her or the bike. I still have the Harley. If the person in my life can't accept what I do, then they're gone. Fortunately, mt present wife, Marcia, has no problems with my hobby. Actually, the last couple of months have been a real bonding time for us. I gave her a '34 Ford snap tite kit and she enjoyed building it. Now we're working together building an HO train layout. Yesterday we were applying grass. Today she posted pics on facebook telling people that she's a good flocker.
Agent G Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 First three wives, yes. The saint I'm married to now, no. G
Tony T Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Thanks for the giggle, Jim!! Awesome that you share a hobby, too!
Big Daddy Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Like peter said my wife supports what i do cause it keeps me outta her hair, on the other hand because i have no problem spending 100's when i go to the hobby store i do sneak some by her , like my last shipment from modelroundup (all hudsons)they arrived while she was at work and they went right to the basement
Darin Bastedo Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I find it's never a good thing to hide anything from your spouse. especially in my case. My wife's first husband cheated on her,and lied about everything. She trusts me and that trust is everything to me. I've found that if you can't be trusted in the small things you cannot be trusted at all. Of course part of that trust comes from the fact that nothing I buy for my hobby, is bought with money needed for other things. Of course she has the same financial freedom when we have a little extra in the budget too. We both trust each other to be financially responsible, and we both buy things that we enjoy. She knows How much I love model building, so if I want a new kit every so often that is fine with her. If you feel the need to hide what you are doing from your wife, perhaps you shouldn't be doing it.

Rob McKee Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 My first wife was brutal about my hobby. I would get the gears for buying a couple of kits on payday. This was back when kits were priced around the 10 - 15 dollar amount. At the same time she would smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day which were priced around 6 dollars a pack. Do the math: 2 kits every couple of weeks max $30 2 packs of smoke a day $168 On top of that she didn't work for 9 years. I supported her and I would get the gears for a couple of model kits. Needless to say she is gone. However, I still have to support her with spousal support. New wife, awesome supporter of the hobby and takes a real interest in what I do.
peekay Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 You know what they say, "Birds of a feather flock together". Great!
monkeyclaw Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 My wife once told me if I kept spending so much on models she was going to leave me; I told her she would be missed.........27 years later she's still here, and I couldn't possibly spend anymore on models.........(LOL) matt
peekay Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I think my wife would be shocked if she knew more precisely how much I spend. But she reckons my obsession with cars "keeps me off the streets." (Try packing more irony than that into one sentence!)
62rebel Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 yup; my hobbies (models and 1:1's) keep me out of bars and strip clubs. the wife always knows where i am....
Johnny K Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 As in most things, the answer lies somewhere in between for me; if I bring something in, or receive a package by mail, my wife asks what it is and wants to see it if she's present. I show her, she says 'That's a cute one," or "Well, that's really a pile of junk," etc. If she's not present, it goes in with everything else and she usually doesn't notice it (she rarely goes into 'THAT' room). The point is, I guess, that I don't feel the need to hide it, but I also don't go out of my way to flaunt it.
heatride Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 If I had to hide anything from my wife, she wouldn't be my wife. Same here . Note to self : Let junkman post for you he always beats me to the punch . or post I should say ............
