I'm along time reader of MCM, and I've always loved reading Alex Kustov's build ups of Model Factory Hiro kits. I like reading how he overcomes different obstacles in building these kits, but wow! Sometimes I wonder if I would go through that time after time. These kits aren't exactly cheap at nearly $300 a piece on average. I just finished reading his lastest on the MFH Ferrari 275 GTB. Kudos to Kustov! You have more patience than I. (and you wallet obviously has a higher threshold of pain than mine too.)

Certainly not a masochist. A committed artist and professional.

When I think about that, I think about wives who don't get the hobby. For Alex, of course, he is an artisan and a professional. Speaking with a VERY broad brush, and not about my life, I think such wives just don't understand art and artists. This is very common and understandable among people who are model builders. You would get more respect if you built traditional sailing ships like Grandpa or were into model railroads, like old guy hobbies of the olden days.

I agree with that 150%

Yeah, I'd rank Alex right up there among the "heavy hitters" of builders. He can sure turn out a beautiful Ferrari! And a lot of his craftsmanship goes unseen in the finished models, yet he doesn't skimp when it comes to those areas.

I agree with you Skip with one exception. Model Railroading is another love of mine and I have built a couple of award winning modules for the club I belong to. Aside from the others in the hobby I find people generally give me the same confused look I get when I show them model cars, planes, or even ships that I have built. Unless one is into a hobby like ours I don't think people understand the work and effort we put into our builds. Most associate the hobby to when they were a kid and build models in a couple of hours. That would be like saying to a true artist "I used to paint pictures when I was in grade 2".

The model is our canvas.

Oh, and by the way I am not a grandpa yet. lol

The guy can work magic with them, but his articles have pretty much turned me off ever buying a MFH kit. I can take fit issues, but $300 or so is WAY more than I'd like to spend for something with that many issues. I'll continue to get my 'hand-to-hand combat modeling' kicks from the $60 R&R kits, thank you!

If you think that's bad, try dropping a grand on a Pocher kit with as many, if not more, "issues" as a typcal MFH kit. :o

Hmmm.... maybe I am crazy after all...

I spent $19.95 on a Gremlin with an ill fitting grill.

Expensive, yes. They do look awesome when Alex builds them though.

I am considering spending $100 on an old kit, but will probably delay long enough for someone else to buy it. I can't imagine debating myself for a $300 kit with fit an finish issues.
