Evil Appetite Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Has anyone ever built one of these? Whats your opinion on engraving, fit or overall quality? One of the local shops has had one of the shelf for quite a few months now, I'd have bought it by now if I knew anything about this company and their products
440 Dakota Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I have one of the early release trucks that I have not built yet but it looks like a decent kit
Scale-Master Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I have built several, including many of the box art models for Minicraft. Most are older tools but some have new parts and some cleaning up. While they are not really the easiest for beginners to get great results from, seasoned builders willing to put in the effort can make nice models out of them. The working parts often lead to fiddly issues, but if you build them with the doors fixed it can make assembly much easier.
Evil Appetite Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 Thanks guys...I've only ever seen Daves Speed Shop at one of the local shops. I'm tempted to buy it whenever i'm there, but I hold back . I just might pick it up this week.

Harry P. Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I've built several, probably 5-6 of them. No problems, they are very nice kits.
Mike Kucaba Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Hhmmm? I have doubles of all the earlier issues. I wonder if a 1/16th "Ala Kart" could be bashed with a lot of work. Is a '29 that different from a '31?
Chuck Most Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I have the Rat Trap '31 Model A pickup. My only gripe has to do with the wheels/tires- the rear of the tires are molded open, and the inside of the wheels are oversized. Since I plan to build mine as a fenderless hot rod, that's a bit of a letdown. Other than that, looks like a farily good kit, though I've only gotten as far as engine assembly.
Casey Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) The hopped up Flathead in the '31 pickup kits is the best part, but as Chuck mentioned, the rear pie crust slicks are a huge let down, and the Halibrand style wheels aren't all that great either. The front tires look undersized to me, too. The sidewalls are so short they look like a 1/20 scale tire on any other 1/16 scale vehicle. The body in the version I had (molded in yellow) was nicely done with no flash or warpage at all. Edited January 25, 2012 by Casey
Junkman Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Considering how old those kits are, they really stood the test of time well.
