SuperStockAndy Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) I don't. Edited January 27, 2012 by SuperStockAndy
Scalper Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 my wide says that I don't psssssssssshhhhhhhhhhaw.
martinfan5 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 sometimes yes , and sometimes no, I do more so when I build Japanesse kits
ranma Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Like Almond joy and Mounds. Sometimes I do,and sometimes I don't. All depends on the kit.
Chuck Most Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 When I scew something up I often go back to see what it was I did wrong, but for the most part, no.
Qwit Pushin Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I do until I see a conflict with something I want to add that might be a problem if I follow the steps in order. I find that I like to improvise a lot, which causes some deviation from the master plan, much like life....
moparmagiclives Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 NO WHERE does it say "open here first", so for the most part,no. I have been thinking however of starting to do stuff box stock, think it might make my life a little Easyer with a few less choices, soni may have to crack those baby's open sooner or latter.
Rob McKee Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I have a look at them before I start building a kit. Really, how many times would one follow instructions to slap an engine together? lol Mostly reference when I get a little lost.
martinfan5 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I am building a fujimi BMW kit, and there really is no need to look at the insturctions, the only thing I have looked at is the paint guide on it.
Swifster Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 OK, let me be the one with OCD. Yes, I read the instructions a couple of times before building and keep it handy during the build. Do I build the model in ORDER? Not necessarily...
TurboKitty Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Usually I'll only glance over the instructions if it's something I've built several times before (muscle cars for example), but for the most part I can figure out where everything goes since I've built a lot of the same things over the years. It's like a routine I guess. If I bought something I've never built before, like a semi truck for example, then yeah I'd probably read every step on the instructions because it wouldn't be a familiar subject.
Art Laski Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I definitely do, but it depends what I'm working on. I think no matter the kit, it's best to read them and analyze them as part of your build strategy.Sometimes you can follow them step-by-step and sometimes you can't. For instance, on a recent simple build, I wanted to remove a seam before painting, whereas the instructions would have had me leave the seam. So I had to deviate from the instructions in order to do that. It took some creative planning to make it happen, though!
001slick001 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 When i open the box it's the first thing i go for.I tend to look through it before i build the model, manly to see what options are available and decide if I'm going to modify or build it box stock.
Junkman Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Be a real man and burn them before you start a kit.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 LOL, Christian, how do you think I light my stoggies! My apologies for having earned another post by posting something insignificant and rather oompish loompish!
Junkman Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I have the impression you don't take this hobby as serious as you should.

Dr. Cranky Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Gentlemen can we return to a more gratifying philosophical discussion of the ethics of wiring our engines with human hair?
