ranma Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Do you paint the frame before you build? Or after its built? I myself build then paint the frame it seems to glue together better this way. For me that is.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I do it both ways depending on the type of build. If it's a junker or daily driver, I might glue it all together and then paint. If its a shiny and detailed build, then I paint the parts separate.
Jim B Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I always build the frame first, then prime & paint as a single unit.
JMD904 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Best way is to assemble and dry fit the body and then paint. I assemble the axles and leaf springs,etc.etc. Then I paint it. Speeds up the process.
Chad Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I assemble, than paint. it works well for me, just do multiple light coats you'll get there. Chad
mikelo Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 One thing I learned when starting my new job is the full size frames are almost completely assembled before painting. Even the wire harnesses, fuel & air lines are run prior. So it should work in scale as well. Mike
doogie7046 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I too prefer to build the complete frame and then paint it as one unit. You just have to take a little more care when handling the frame to install the engine, fuel tanks and other parts.
jekylljr Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I to assemble whole frame with axels in place then paint everything
skulls Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 For the guys who assemble then paint, do you have any issues with getting into the smaller areas like inbetween the gussets on the crossmembers?
mackinac359 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Assemble the entire frame minus wheels, engine/trans, fuel tanks, battery box, tool box.
cowboysevens Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I also primer and paint after frame is all together and I have test fitted everything that will be atacthed to it
