imatt88 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Hey all, Is it safe to assume that not all Cuda and Challengers came with huge motors? I'd like to build a bare bones Cuda/Challenger grocery getter just for something different.. Could you get a 6 cyl in one of those cars? and if so, can anyone recommend a good doner kit? Same goes for steelies and dog dish hubcaps.. As usual, any help/recommendations would be appreciated Cheers, Ian

Green Duster Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 YES, THEY CAME WITH EVERYTHING FROM A /6 CYL. TO THE MIGHTY HEMI. A GOOD PLACE TO FIND A /6 IS THE LINDBERG 64 PLYMOUTH AND DODGE KITS. THE STOCK ONES.
Swifster Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Could be wrong, but I don't think the Slant 6 was available in the Challenger. I think the base engine was the 318-2V engine. Nope, I'm wrong. The 6 was available in both hardtop and convertible. But they didn't make many. These must have been the Deputy models.
Green Duster Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 All engines were avalbile. Belive it or not!
Junkman Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 If you didn't tick any boxes on the order sheet, they came with a Slant Six. Entirely btw. I have the same project lined up. A base Challenger.
Bartster Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Revell '68 Charger has nice steelies & jockey caps.
imatt88 Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 OK, good stuff! thanks guys Keep it coming
slantasaurus Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 If you are going to use a Slant 6 from the 64 Dodge or Plymouth kits update the valve cover to the post 1969 smooth style rather than the ribbed valve cover in the kit. A closer to correct valve cover can be found in the Deora kit although it is chromed, problem is it doesn't fit the Lindberg Slant very well.
Longbox55 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Here you go, right from the sales brochures. http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Dodge/1970_Dodge/1970_Dodge_Challenger_Brochure/1970%20Dodge%20Challenger-05.jpg http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Plymouth/1970%20Plymouth/album/1970%20Plymouth%20Barracuda-12.html
440 Dakota Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 good info here and on a side note you could even get the slant six in the big B body base model cars

Someone mentioned (maybe it was you, Ron) the Deora Slant Six is attached to a 3-speed manual transmission, which may be another reason to find one versus the (very nice) Lindberg /6. You'll need to find a resin-cast base-model hood, too. This was a /6 Barracuda which was parted out long ago:

Actually its the Lindberg 64 Plymouth kit that has the 3 speed manual trans, the 64 Dodge and Deora kits both have automatics. Another note on Slant engines, 1960-69 engines were painted red, 1970 and later are painted Chrysler light blue.
imatt88 Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Straight from the brochures...DUH! Why didn't I think of that? Killer stuff guys!!! Thanks for all the info Anyone know where I can get a base Cuda flat hood?
Casey Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Anyone know where I can get a base Cuda flat hood? I would try smallblockdodge on eBay- he/they seem to have most of the plain jane hoods for Mopars.
imatt88 Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Thanks Casey. I found one on Time Machines Resin's website.
