I agree with Jantrix here. A weathering section might not be a bad idea, but I generally "View New Content" when I sign on and check out almost everything that has been posted since my last visit.

The existing 'Other Models' section seems like a good place for zombie/sci-fi etc stuff.

One thing I would like to see added is a general 'Racing Models' section--there is a 'Drag Racing Models' and a 'NASCARS' section, but no general racing section...would be nice for us F1/Indy/road racing/etc fans...

I suggested ONE section for all competition cars... NASCAR, drag, Indy, F1, etc. Descriptive thread titles would serve to keep things easy to find.

"My latest Indy car model," not "My latest race car."

Yes..not sure why it's not that way now...odd to see no general section.

Skip, I think grouping military vehicles there is fine too. Besides, that's where the whole bug and fevers for weathering vehicles started. It'd have a place of honor at that table, sure.

Sorry Harry, I feel it was my forte that was being dismissed as mainstream and somehow lacking by the good doctor.

I don't feel that customs are more worthy of a section than weathered builds. But I certinly got the impression that he feels the opposit.

Quite the opposite, Steve. ALL CAR MODELING SUBJECTS, STYLES, ETC belong at the same table. It's all part of the same hobby. I most certainly did not mean any disrespect.

Remember guys... nothing is going to change unless Gregg decides to change things. So far this is all just talk; I don't think Gregg is all that big on reworking things.

But even if nothing changes, we can still start using more descriptive thread titles.

No worries, Steve.

Anybody notice the similarity between Andy and Cranky? Both won't take NO for an answer even when the reasoning for the answer is put out there and rationally explained.

I thought you were over that???

And how the heck did this topic turn into what it is?

While we are all engaged here in this conversation about what to do with styles of building, I am receiving pictures of Donn Yost's new work, and while I my eyes are popping out, I keep thinking I'd like to participate in a hobby that includes both:

Gregg DOES have the last word, but I think he also understands that MCM and MCMF have steadily provided a stronger (and in my opinion better) variety of subject matter and trends in the hobby, more so than any other outlet for this type of creative expression in the hobby. Both are much more open to diversity of discourse, ideas, imagination, etc . . .

It's got to be good for the hobby and for the businesses that feed the hobby. I would think.

I wish I could paint half as good as that purple Camaro!

I wish I had half the interest in the Camaro that I have in that killer Model T.

Well, Andy, there you go, you've exercised your right to decide and choose. Isn't it, after all, a matter of taste and personal preference?

My point is, both kinds of models have a place where they can co-exist. And that place is here on this forum, MCMF, and in the magazine, MCM.

Get up off your wallet , Tinman , you can't take your baptismal money with you ! Lmao !

Buy the DVD ! With your skills and smarts ,

you'll be laying down glass in no time flat !

I guarantee it ! How often do you hear that in this day and age ?

-snip-

It's the pointless posts like that that make it harder to get the topic back on topic.

Just remember, Cranky has the option to delete or close this topic, just keep that in mind.

So I'd recommend everyone quits whining about everything.

Just my two cents

I admit, I've heard nothing but good stuff about your DVD.

Might just spring for one... ;)

But "get off my wallet?"

You do know that I build mostly Pocher kits, right? Not exactly the "el-cheapo" way to enjoy the hobby...

I keep thinking I'd like to participate in a hobby that includes both:

You do Virgil, as does everyone else. You just need to realize it. I love the work you do on weathered builds and wish I could do the same kind of work. Another person's work I love is Chuck Most's. With Chuck,it's not just his weathering, but the subject is what really gets me.

I Believe Donn's Painting methods can be applied to Pocher kits. just sayin'...

Yeah, I know.

I just wondered about his suggestion that I'm too cheap to buy the DVD, when in fact I spend more on one kit than many guys spend on the hobby all year.

I'd say no on a rust-only section. Mostly because I think the board is already fragmented enough. I think the main board needs fewer segments, not more.

Agreed.
