Gregg Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I'm just going to make a quick comment. The problem with doing any major changes, restructuring, or rearranging of the forum, tables, fields, etc., is that something is going to get messed up. Murphy's law. I can try to download the whole database, and do a test on it, but that takes time, probably a few hours of sitting or more, which is way past my max of 15 minutes. If someone wants to download the DB and try, let me know. It's not as simple as just adding or subtracting, you have all the corresponding data, fields, etc that will get moved, and if there's a link in there that doesn't go along with it, it will mess things up. And it will show up probably later more than now. Don't know if that makes any sense. With the lack of support I have had with this board (from the board programers, not y'all), I would be hesitant to even think about a major restructure.

Maybe he can do the changeover and you won't have to bother with it.

Leave it be.

Gregg, you just let us know how we can be of help (beginning with Harry's suggestions) in order to make whatever changes you want to make. Which includes if you want Doctor Cranky to don his FOREVER LAZY and do a car wash to help raise funds, you let me know. Seriously, other than coming up with more ideas and suggestions, how CAN WE HELP?

Dr. Cranky Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Harry, when you get Donn's DVD's make sure you watch them on a day your local Hobby Shop is open because I am predicting you are going to lose your mind like I did and then start getting all the supplies to spend the next month painting shiny models!
LoneWolf15 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Andy , Listen up , Kiddo ! You have something that alot of the older builders on this forum never had ! An education , like no other , and it's all at your fingertips at any given moment ! How you use that education , or how you allow it to influence your model building skills is all on you ! My DVDs , Virgil's book on weathering , Bob Downie's book on airbrushing , etc , would all make great Christmas / birthday presents ! They will cut your learning curve by literal decades . They will make you an excellent modeler as long as you have patience and apply the principles put forth . You do realize of coarse , that some of the individuals that you go round and round with on the forum are some of the best in the hobby ? Just my opinion , you would be far better served to allow them to teach you to be a better modeler rather than to do battle with them ! All it would take would be a slight change in your attitude , no shoulder chip in otherwords , Capice ? If someone chums the water with you , don't rise to the bait , be here to learn rather than a target for confrontation .

Well, like I said, I've heard nothing but good things about Donn's methods. And his results speak for themselves. I figure if he can get that kind of result with enamels, even a die-hard lacquer guy like me might be able to learn a few new tricks!

bigphoto Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 We can call Doc Cranky's column Rust onleum Seriously though I would like to see a small scale section for like 1/32-1/43.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 "If someone chums the water with you , don't rise to the bait , be here to learn rather than a target for confrontation ." Donn those are the wisest words I've heard on this forum in a long time!

Evil Appetite Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 That DVD is a hell of an investment..thats exactly what it is...dirt cheap too compared to the knowledge I walked away with after watching it the first time. I would have paid double the price..same as the Tips n Tricks DVD..worth more than the price of admission!!
martinfan5 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 When I joing the airbrush world I am going to get the DVD
62rebel Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 with respect to Cranky, et al, i think there's room within the standing forums for Rusty/Weathered/Apocolyptic builds... simply make sure to put that descriptive in your title if you think you need to. as it stands, if i see Cranky's signature i know it's gonna be crusty and interesting to look at!
Dr. Cranky Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Curt, not all of Doctor Cranky's builds are crusty. Well, wait? Now that I think about it even my shiny stuff might be "crusty" too since it comes from the same place: MY CRUSTY, GUNKED, and FERMENTED (DEMENTED rhymes with it) Mind! LOL!

The DVD teaches far more than just airbrushing . Proper paint environment , tools , body and parts preparation , how to apply paint , polishing out a finish , etc ! 90 minutes of instruction that will help both the airbrush and spray can users ! The tips and tricks ? 4 hrs worth of how tos using the KISS principle !
randx0 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I read through all 10 pages of this and really I don't understand why a seperate section would be warranted because of the finish on a model. I think everyone here appreciates the large following this forum has ,it makes it easier to find like minded modelers quickly and in greater numbers than on the smaller forums that cater more specific building disciplines. If something is popular and done well people will find it . I find this plea for a specific section to be somewhat self serving.Perhaps a more prudent approach would have been to gauge interest with a poll or simply asking the opinions of fellow modelers. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. So since dr cranky has generated so many posts I will gravy train this thread .Can everybody look at all my posts and builds please everybody loves them and they should have their own section THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
Chuck Most Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I think there should be two segments... FINISHED and IN PROGRESS.

Harry , Donn's method works very well... you won't be disappointed than you can turn to your co workers and say.... " I did that ! "
scalenut Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 since there is such a divide between rust/weathering liker's and haters... all the more reason to give it ,it's own segment. I'm happy the way things are but they could always be better
