Chuck Most Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted this in the pickups section, and had a few requests to post it here as well. Why? No idea, but here goes. THE SKINNY: The wheels from the '52 kit were used in front. I had a set of four, but used the other pair on a '52 mild custom, so I dug out some AMT '49 Ford. I removed all the side trim, as well as the fender skirts and bumper guards. The chrome was also stripped and painted with Argent silver for a base-model look. I also converted the Twin H 308 to a lower-line, singel carb 292 six. The bed sides and floor are '41 Chevy, the rear cab wall and tailgate are cut from plastic stock. I wish I'd positioned the rear window (copied from a '50 F-1) a bit lower, and added some lettering or rib detal to the tailgate in hindsight. I call it a Hudson Handyman, it's my take on how a 1953 Hudson pickup may have looked, based on the actual 1948 Hudson factory pickup prototype (which was a modified '48 Hudson with a '47 Hudson pickup bed grafted into the back), and a few home-built conversions of sedans.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Beautiful. It's great to see a new kit get under a builder's skin (that's one way of putting it!) and you've been building a nice, stand-out series of these, Chuck. Can't wait to see what else you do with the Hudson.
peter31a Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 That's a really cool concept, Chuck. It turned out really well. It should look nice next to the mild custom you built. I saw something like that custom on the cover of a magazine somewhere....
CorvairJim Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 There's a '47 Hudson pickup on my "100-car Bucket List" of cars I'd want to buy if we were to win the lottery so this one really caught my eye, Chuck. You did a great job on it. Thanks for "Keeping it real" and doing it as a base model instead of a full-dress model. These things would have been meant to be used, not just cruised. I have an AMT 1955 Nomad-based "El Camino" in the works at the moment that will be a base model too, probably with a straight-6 under the hood. ALL of the specialized Nomad trim is already gone, and the tailgate might be made more upright too, similar to the regular Tri-5 Chevy wagons.
Dominik Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Here it is Chuck! Seen it in the progress and so it came out great! Like the idea, you made a great job.
