INTERNATIONAL, PLASTIC, MODELER'S SOCIETY IPMS/Wings, Wheels & Keels Model Club Fred Holtweiss 941-475-9697

Thanks for your help. I searched the IPMS site and found clubs in your area and on the East Coast, but nothing close to me. Searching the web for model car clubs doesn't turn up anything either. What do I expect when there's only one small hobby shop in Naples and the next largest is 30 miles away.

@thatz4u - I didn't know Hobby Lobby had a store in Ft Myers. I'll check it out. Thanks. Have you gone to Paradise Hobbies in Ft Myers? If so, how is it? I've seen their web site and I plan on going there soon.

@modeltruckmafia - Thanks for the info. Moving from California last year, I'm getting used to things being a little quieter in the Naples area. It would be about 2 hrs to drive there and 2 hours back. I was hoping for something closer. How often do you have meetings? Monthly?

I would suggest that you go on the SA forum and look up Ray Ferguson AKA BIGTALLDAD and ask him. If anybody knows, he does. He was vp of the Orlando IPMS chapter until he retired a year or so ago and then moved to southwest Florida were he lives now.

Is there a club in the Naples area?

NO....but we do have enough to start one

941 is NOT Naples area code....More up towards Tampa

Ray lives in the Cape Coral area....a bit out of the Naples area.

That said, Tonio 7 , Jason McMinn, and myself are all in Naples.

Cape Coral to Naples area is only like 35 Miles Mike. As I said previously. If anyone would know the answer, it would be Ray.

I drove passt this location, to see how the construcion is coming along, and to my surprise it was open.

They have a decent selection of car models plus lots of tools and building materials. Much better than the only other hobby shop in town.

Their prices were pretty good, too. Much better than I would have thought.

They have a web site, but it only shows photos of the store: sunnyhobbies.com

Come on up to Ocala on the 1st Saturday of every month for a FAST (Florida Auto & Scale Trucks) meeting. We have members travel from Gainesville, Jacksonville, Safety Harbor, Daytona, and Orlando every month. Our next meeting is April 7 and we'll be doing a BMF tutorial.

Thanks, Jim. It's a 4-hour drive from Naples, but we go past Ocala (and Garlits' Museum) several times a year. I'll see if we can arrange a trip to be there on one of your Saturdays. What time do you start?
