'08SEAL Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) This is the 429. It's Ford Cardinal Red. With the black vents on the body, that was a pain in the butt. It came out nice though. I haven't started on the engine just the body. The red came out great! If this isn't my best work ever, then I don't know what is. All comments appreciated. The chassis. I painted the gas tank red for color. The black washed wheels. The wheels don't go into the tires very well... The front bumper. I painted the vents black and then used paint brush cleaner to wipe off the extra paint. The hood. Edited February 9, 2012 by '08SEAL
Ramfins59 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Great job so far Lane. Keep up the good work. Paint job looks great.
Hiusken33 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 good work lane the red looks nice is it a factory ford color?
Casey Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 The front bumper. I painted the vents black and then used paint brush cleaner to wipe off the extra paint. Try using acrylic water-based paints for details such as these. That way, you can wipe off the excess with a damp rag and not affect the oil-baed enamel of lacquer paint beneath...assuming you didn't spray the body with a water-based paint. Ditto for the cowl vents. Thinned black water-based paint, built up over a few applications will darked the recesses and allow you to wipe the excess off the high points. These are a notoriously difficult area to detail as the paint fills in the vents quickly. Looking good so far, Lane, I've built this kit a few times when I was younger and always liked it.
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I'm a big fan of the Boss 429. You are doing a smashing job on this one.
'08SEAL Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) More done today. I started on the engine and others. The engine and engine paint. I tried to get a good shot of the decals in the window. The decals are from the Revell '32 5-window. Did a mach up. Tried to get in a cool shot. Black 429 decals. Edited February 6, 2012 by '08SEAL
'08SEAL Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Here's the interior. The finished wheels. The grille was black washed yesterday and started on the front bumper today. Started on the rear bumper also. All comments appreciated. Don't hold back on the critisisims. I need to get better.
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 No criticisms here. Fantastic work from where I'm sitting
JunkPile Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Great Job! Love the decals on the windows. Nice work area too
Modlbldr Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Looking great! The Boss 429 is one of my favorites. I built this kit years ago (1984, I believe) in my teens. Can't wait to try it again along with the Boss 302. Keep it up. It's some nice work you're doing. Later-
'08SEAL Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Well little change of plans... The fan. I got bored and painted it like that. The air cleaner. Yeah, orange peeled paint. No matter how hard I try, I can't get a smooth paint job.
