Bruce Poage Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I am working a two color paint scheme on a sedan delivery. I plan to do the usual 3 mist coats and 3 finish coats. Then I will need to mask for the second color. I use a dehydrator at about 103 degrees. How soon after applying last coat oof first color and putting in the dehydrator should I wait before masking for the second color? I will clear afterward. As one coat is newer than the other how long would you sugget waiting to wet sand and apply clear. Or may be I won't have to wet sand just clear. Thoughts and suggestions please--and thank you!!
High octane Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 3 mist coats and 3 finish coats is a LOT of paint, and then you're gonna ad a second color and then clear coats too? All this over primer? I would use 2 mist coats and 1 wet coat before masking and spraying the second color, and that 1 mist coat and 1 wet coat before applying the clear coats. I myself wet sand or polish the clear coats only and that's after a couple weeks of "gassing out." I don't own or use a dehydrator so I can't help you out there.
espo Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I have a chepo dehydrator that gets to around 80 to 90 degrees. Most paint will setup in a couple of hours from what i've seen.
MikeMc Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Lacquer or enamel ? Airbrush or rattlecan ? I shoot lacquers and 3 hours at 105 with a half hour to cool...then tape and reshoot. 6 coats sounds like a lot, but not really....I shoot 15 or more layers inc primer and clear....just keep it thin!
