crazyjim Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 This was more of an exercise in taping/painting than the actual build. I do love the design though and would like to build another one, only next time I'd split the body to make it wider and try to make some kind of street rod/machine out of it.
Bartster Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 If I may make a quote: Very nice SHINY build!!!
crazyjim Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Ha, ha. Thanks, Bart. Know anybody that has one laying around?
Bartster Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I have the headers, but I can't remember who traded 'em to me. Maybe they have the rest. I'll check my old PMs.
crazyjim Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks guys. I checked ebay but there's no way I'll pay $20.00 plus shipping for the kit. Other online stores have them also at about the same price. I'm sent emails asking if they'd negotiate on the price. Doesn't hurt to ask. I tried drilling out the tips of the headers, Bart and messed them up. Then I bent up some brass tubing but couldn't get epoxy to stick to the little brace I made. So I went to the parts box and found what's on there.
Bartster Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Jim, if you want the ones I got, LMK. I decided to go with FC pipes on the A-100. I'll get em out tomorrow!
crazyjim Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks, Bart but I don't need them. Next Trantula is gonna be for the street.
Bartster Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I gotta see that, should be an awesome project!
crazyjim Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 My mind is saying split the body down the middle and widen it. Where the dragchute goes would be a license plate and taillights. The front end has me concerned - maybe an Ala Kart grill/headlights?
Jantrix Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Wow. Jim, your paint work has improved by leaps and bounds over the last few years. That is just spectacular. Well done!
crazyjim Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Thank Rob. The airbrush certainly helps. HOK paint helps. The many hours spent trying to get SHINY :) has helped. Still very long way to go but it's been a good ride so far. Maybe someday I'll be able get rid of the purple pond supplies.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 LONG LIVE SHINY, Jim, that's all I'm going to say to you. Oh, and a great job on the paint!
crazyjim Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Thanks Doc & Danno. I agree 110% doc. SHINY :) RULES!

crazyjim Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 I don't know what you mean, Bart. Looks like my ebay negotiations worked and I should have the kit next week.
GrandpaMcGurk Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) Mmmmmmmm, widen it and make a street rod huh? As far as the headlights go, perhaps shorten the dragster front end a bunch and mold in the nose from Roth's Outlaw. The Outlaw bug eye front fender style would look right at home with the rest of the body. Edited February 17, 2012 by GrandpaMcGurk
crazyjim Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Interesting idea, Don. I built an Outlaw too many years ago. I wonder if I have any of the parts left? I'll have to check when I get back from a doctor's appointment.

After you widen it (& shorten it:Grandpa McGurk-nice) maybe remove the "mandibles" & you would have enough room for many grille choices. A '63-'67 Vette comes to mind as well.
Psychographic Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Nice taping job Jim. Here's some inspiration for you.

If you decide to use the Roth nose, I have an unmolested complete kit Jim........if you need pics or want the kit I'm sure you could sweet talk or trade me for parts or whatever, we have a club meeting coming up pretty soon anyway. Don't forget we'll be getting our '40 Ford pickups too.
crazyjim Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Thank you and holy cow, David. You stretched and widened the body, didn't you? Looking good. I don't want to widen as much as to fit a Corvette front end, Bart. I'm thinking something like the size of a deuce roadster, maybe a longer frame, and small front end. Don has a nice idea with an Outlaw front. I still have to check my parts bin, Don. I hate to disturb an perfect kit just for 1 part. Yup - FAST, March 3 at the Hobby Lobby in Ocala. Two whole boxes of the '40 Ford pickup have been sitting at Rob's Hobby World for about 6 weeks.
Bartster Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 After looking at the Outlaw again, I can see that happening, indeed!
rustybill1960 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Hey Jim I like the paint work, cool Man! What did you use to tape it off?? Spray can or air brush? Really sharp concept!! Thank You for sharing Later Russ
