SuperStockAndy Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) Well, it's always possible. EDIT-Oh, just saw the typo Edited February 22, 2012 by SuperStockAndy
martinfan5 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Why would he EBay it if it was real? Why wouldnt he, you have a much much bigger potential buyer audience
Bridgebuster Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 You gotta really want the autograph (if it's real ) . . . the car itself is pretty weak.
moparmagiclives Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Well he is getting up there and all, my grandma forgets who I am sometimes. Happens to the best of them I guess..... Did you bid on it yet ??? If not I've got a Mitchell Jordon rookie card signed I'll sell you.
bigphoto Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I have Carroll Shelby's autograph on a hat and it doesn't look like that!
Bartster Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Try signing something in mid-air without resting your hand on a flat surface & see if it looks like your signature. Now try it on a slick model car roof. Now try it when you're 89 (?). I wouldn't buy it, just sayin'.....
slantasaurus Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Carroll is like George Barris, he'll sign anything you put in front of him....
deja-view Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Well, the '67 mustang in the pic is no Shelby, nor even a halfway decent representation. No offense to the builder, but Carrol Shelby would look at that and be as kind as possible by saying "Sorry, I'm not putting my name on that thing." I'm pretty sure that sig is waaaay off, too. His speed shop is not far from me. I've been tempted to take a few of my Shelby diecasts out to see if I could get them signed but I think he gets far too many requests. I'd love to have his sig on my Camee and Christee Edelbrock GT-350's....and maybe across the trunk of my 1/12 #98 Cobra racer. Or, maybe the top of each of the 1/12 Revell Gt-350's sitting on my shelf collecting dust. At least they are Shelby models. He gets around but I'm not so sure he does a lot of signing.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Autographs go up in value when they can be authenticated.
Jon Cole Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I can't even read the scratches in that signature. The typo is just in the description (or is it?)
Darin Bastedo Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 That is not authentic. It isn't even close to his handwriting.
elan Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I would have to see a picture of him signing it, then I still wouldn't buy it. It's kind of a silly deal!
Jon Cole Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 And THIS is allowed to continue here? It's A-OKAY to chastise grammar and spelling, as long as it's sourced from off-this-site, right? Give it break guys, Seriously. Seriously. As for the authenticity of the item in question, buyer beware. Not a single one of you that has commented on this will ever even remotely consider purchasing this. Questioning the authenticity of a celebrity's autograph / signature on a public forum is of course allowed!
shucky Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 For the record Carroll Shelby does not live in Las Vegas and is rarely at his manufacturing/building facility. He lives in L.A. and will only sign autographs if the item is sent in to him and a donation is made to his charity.

I've heard the same thing about his autographs and the charity donation thing from local Shelby owners that I know.
kenb Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I asked George Barris for a signature 2 times. Once he just looked at me like I was crazy and walked off and the second time he wanted 10 bucks. I don't need his signature that bad. Many many years ago I was in Vegas (and winning good). My wife and I were at a store with autographed articles. We bought my son a signed Rangers hockey team photo. They had a framed card signed (and documented) by Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, and Noel Redding. My wife said $250, no way. I'm still kicking my ass on that one. Had plenty of cash and let her talk me out of it. Ken
Guest Dr. Odyssey Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I met Barris once and he was a royal jerk. Everything was about "him". He liked the people that blew smoke up his you-know-what.

Why would this "not" be allowed to be spoken about here. Its in the general section, its about a model...thats clearly not authentic, or lacks anything in the description or image to prove it, and its a little funny if you ask me. So why is it a big deal?....its not yours is it ??? Back to the topic, I was told once by a detective that the best way to fake something is to turn it upside down and "draw" it, its the best way to duplicate something without it looking like its been copyed...he also told me a motel is the best way to launder money...but thats for a different subject.
martinfan5 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 A few minutes doing a google image search and,
Ben Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 That says "Benson Shelby" That's Carrol's body double! LOL Seriously though, it doesn't even look like it says "Carrol"? On the autograph thing in general, I just laugh when I hear that someone expects money for their signature! What a joke! Just because they can do something well, I should bow down to them and beg for them to sign something for me???? They should be grateful to have admirers who care enough to look up to them in the first place!!!! When you do get a signature, all it means is that person touched that object at one time, period! Do you honestly think they would even remember it or you after the thousands of things they sign? I feel that people who pay way more for something just because it's signed are pure suckers!
Darin Bastedo Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 First off, no - it's not mine. It's not the Subject I was referring to - it is the "typo" in the ebay description that, If i recall, I mentioned in my first post. If someone were to post that thing here, say in the trade section, that typo would have been called out & the person who did it raked over the coals until it was stopped by management. How is doing the same thing with something "off-site" any different? First off it's not just that it's a typo, it's that they spelled the name of the person whose autograph was supposedly on the Item. it makes it that much more fishy. Second I've made many a typo here and unless it turned out to be funny nobody ever made mention of it, so I doubt this is as big of an issue as you are making it out to be.
Danno Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Authentic autograph by that world famous racer and car builder, Carl Shelley.
deja-view Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 (edited) Actually, Shucky, Mr. Shelby is here quite often. He was very interested in the development of his Shelby II and other projects. Wheelman; Actually, the seller misspelled his name TWICE. It's CaRRoll Shelby. But beyond the spelling the sig is nothing like the real Carroll Shelby's. I just don't like seeing stuff being sold with phony claims that cost ignorant buyers more than it should.
