Dr. Cranky Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Patrick, you can mix a little bit of india ink and 50-50 alcohol water and use that. But, there are also wonderful weathering solutions out there the likes of AK-INTERACTIVE "black wash" and Vallejo Acrylics offers a wonderful black was too.
vintagestang Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) Where can I get india ink and if I can't get any what else can I use? Edited February 22, 2012 by vintagestang
Jantrix Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 A little black acrylic paint and some water will also do the job.
LoneWolf15 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Pastel chalks ! Don't like how it looks ? Wash it off and try again !
cruz Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I like to use Citadel washes, these are available through Games Workshop stores and come in various colors, this is the one I use the most and the one this engine has. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki I like the fact that it goes on very light so you can opt to stop any time you think you have enough wash on the part. It's also very thin and not as thick as the detailer.
sportandmiah Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Pretty cool Cruz...can you give us a quick tutorial? I've wanted to try this but have been unsure how to do it.
cruz Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Pretty cool Cruz...can you give us a quick tutorial? I've wanted to try this but have been unsure how to do it. The tutorial was written on my last post! It's as simple as just adding the wash to the part and just go from there. You will notice that it goes on very light since it is very thin, you add as you go until you are happy with the results. On the valve covers you see, I added at least 3 light coats because of the small ridges they have. On the intake manifold I probably have 2 coats to create a little contrast. The carbs and fuel pump have one heavy coat and some drybrushing with Rub n Buf. That's basically it, you have to go out, purchase a small bottle and try it.
Art Anderson Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Actually, the few times I've wanted a grimy engine, I just use dirty thinner and brush it on. Art
