LAone Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Hey guys, well now that the 510 is done, i have brought back some old builds and started some new ones. but building is slow for me as my wife is almost ready to pop out our 3rd baby.. so days are long and nights are short. i bought this one along with the 510 ten years ago. i took it out of the box and just sanded the body to primer it. but, i have changed a bit since 10 years ago. i noticed some window and lower sill details would get lost once painted. i trimmed and sanded the body down and i added some stripes of styrene on the hood to fill the huge gaps on the sides and rear. i shaved all emblems, holes for wipers and door handles i have the rear where i want it and im working on the front suspension. heres what i want to be at. rear end in place with final positions. tried to get some good shots of the window trim. no before pics though. cant really see the styrene stripes, but they are there along with putty work. so after 9.5 hours of being on this one, i have mainly done body and frame work. i need a bit more work on the hood, hope to have some primer shot on it tomorrow.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Luis, love the car and love the stance too. These vehicles make great cavasses for paint. Can't wait.
CorvairJim Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 FYI: Just filling the trim opening in the SS427 hood doesn't make it identical the the standard Impala hood. The whole center bulge would have to go away, leaving just a center ridge.

LAone Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 thanks guys. doc, it does make a great canvas, but this is my first lowrider in like 12 years, so ill be keeping it simple and clean. of course there will be metallics.. mario, nah no pumps, just going for a simple lowrider build. ill put the front shocks with the lines, but thats about it. jim, thanks for the info. i actually like the bulge. i want it make them know that this lowrider has balls... jorge, nice ramfla bro.
CorvairJim Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Glad I could help, and I'm glad you took my comment in the spirit in which it was intended. It's a big block Chevy; of course it has balls and there's no reason not to advertise the fact.
Cool Hand Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Being that im a bit of a lowrider fan, il definetly be watching this build. Like the stance and how its shaved smooth.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Keep it going. Jorge, that IS one beautiful subject and smooth body. Hope to see it in paint soon.
Mike502 Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Love these cars ill be following this build!
LAone Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 uh oh, i think we have the first of the painting progress... of course it's got some specs in it, so some light sanding will have to do.
LAone Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 ok before the rain came along to ruin what was a beautiful week here in cali. i grabbed this guy and wetsanded the specs that landed on it. then shot it again with the blue and shortly after that i slapped it with like 4 solid coats of clear. i tried to get good pics of the shine and the color. it's a dark color, but it shines nicely under the sun which i hope comes back soon. heres what it should look like with the wheels mounted. next is the hood. being that i put that putty some 10 years ago, its taken its toll and cracks when flexed a bit. i tried to fix it with some CA glue, so hopefully it holds and i can get it primed and painted.
TheCat Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 WOW... that body is coming out looking really good. I love the color Blue. What color blue did you use?
LAone Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 thanks felix. blue is just one of the many colors i enjoy to look at. this is testors one coat de ja blue straight from the can.
LAone Posted June 16, 2012 Author Posted June 16, 2012 i forgot to add this update. about a month ago i bmf'ed the trim. took a few hours, but it was well worth it. this is more recent. so, i went with a tan color for the interior. i think it'll look good once all in there. on wednesday on shot the frame with alclad gloss black and then last night i shot the chrome...later tonight ill lay down some aqua clear gloss to protect the alclad. oooh shiney...lols
