skulls Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 (edited) This is a WIP that I have that I origionally built about 15 yrs ago when I was young and didnt know how to build, so I thought I would pull it out of the box that it was stored in and well attempt to do a re-build and well... these are the pics of the progress so far. Take into consideration that the truck started off red, then was painted over with it looks like 3 coats of some sort of blue paint I dont even remember using but is a pain to get off! The cap is the color that i am planning on painting the truck. I do have a question about this kit though, what engine did this kit come with? It looks like a cummins, but not sure what model? BigBad Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 James, this must be the AMT T600, isn't it? My guess for the engine is that it's the NTC 350 that was in the original W900. But I could be wrong. Anyway, I'll be watching this one closely, I just bought the Kanepa version to convert into a W900L. I like the color you chose, it's gonna be classy.
Jim B Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Yes, the engine that comes in this kit is a Cummins NTC350. Needless to say, it's a little out of date. Looks like an interesting rebuild.
lapazleo Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Actually it's a nta 370 Cummins from the AMT w 900 kit as is the entire chassis. The nta Cummins has a vertical oil cooler that identifies them from the ntc engines. There are many other differences as well but not visible in model form. Anyway nice work looking for the finished pics.
Jim B Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Good point, but it's still 30 years out of date.

Your exactly right Bob, the engine is currently paint CAT yellow, so I will end up having to update that and well when I go to put some detail in this engine I now know what 1:1 ref pics to look for. For now I am trying to do what I can to smooth out the body to at least minimize all the scratches and skuff etc. Like you see on the hood, but I should have some paint on it by the end of the week.

lapazleo Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 No doubt Cummins engines look much alike. With a little modification black paint and red rocker box covers you could have an n 14 Cummins which would accurate for that t 600. The 3406 Cat from the monogram/Revell snap kits could work. Keep the pics coming on your progress.

I built a T600 using AMTs' K100 suspension and the 3406 from Revells' 359. For engine detailing I've got an old B model 3406 service manual I have from when I started my career as a truck tech. For the trans I used a Fuller manual likewise. Here's mine! http://www.flickr.com/photos/9495602@N02/sets/72157603827432233/ Edited February 28, 2012 by Semi Trailer Mechanic
truckabilly Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Wow, nice slide show. The sleeper interior is awesome. So is the rest of the model. Cool!

I like the 2 hole buds too. Nice KW! Edited February 28, 2012 by Z06Bob
skulls Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) Hmmm, I never even thought about the W900, because this T600 seems to be a vintage to say the least (two stick shift, and no air ride) it might just be worth my time to pick up a snap W900 to use the chassis. Ah well maybe next time. And btw that is one nice lookin T600 slide you have there, is that real wood for the cabinets and drawers? Edited February 29, 2012 by skulls
Jim B Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) Gary Wallace from GW Trucks makes a nice resin front end correction/conversion for the T600/T800, The front ends of the T600/T800 are completely different from the W900. The AMT T600A is realy a bizzare kit. It has the T600A hood (flat nose), the T600B cab (sort of) with the single piece windshield, a W900 frame, and a 1970s engine & transmission.
