What era is the amt car carrier from? Who built the real version ? I want to pick up a period correct rig for it. Thanks for any help you can give. Also could you suggest a common rig that would pull these .

Not that silly actually; When I lived in Phoenix; There was a heavy wrecker running around town with the same La France cab.... It was kinda cool.............Matt

That trailer looks like something out of the 50's early 60's so I agree with the Ford C or that Dodge L trucks, if you want heavier duty, actually even a Peterbilt 351 would look nice in front of that and would probably look period correct. Probably a White Freightliner single drive daycab would look ok. But as much as I like the GMC Astro, the one depicted on the box definitely doesn't look quite right with it. Have a look at this page: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/tag/utility-trailers/ A little further down that page you'll find some examples of similar car carrier trailers there.

One thing to consider is that in the 1950s & 60s, car manufacturers required the auto hauler be the same make as the cars they were hauling. Food for thought.

I originally wanted a early fiftys ford Coe . But within the next few weeks I'm geting some resin 57and 59 f100s with separate cab and beds. I thought I could convert one to a higher f series . If I did that does any one know what f- series would be the right class.

Thanks Gary! Seen them before but never get tired of seeing them! B)

I think there were Ford F700 and F800 way back when. Yep the F800 has the same cab as the F100, with obviously different fender openings for the bigger wheels. It could be configured as a 10 wheeler. Hmmm...This Dodge rig looks just about right for the job I would say...

Here is a couple examples of a F800 "Big Job":

I think it looks tough enough for a trailer full of old F100s.

I have this car trailer as well. My plan is to use it along with the Ford 600 (900?) to haul collector cars, as such, the Ford will use all the chrome with a bright paint job, custom interior (carpeting, high back buckets, etc.) while the trailer will be painted to match the cab. Another on my "to do" list.

Old Mustangs, Cobras, Shelby GT's? All Ford would be nice, how about a Shelby themed hauler??? This is going to be good...

Actually I have 3 69 Camaros & a 69 Corvette, or a string of early Mustangs I could use. there are also the Monogram classic car series I have but those are 1/24 scale.

Any 69 Chevy is alright by me, especially Camaros! Too bad there is no small Chevy cab-over truck model from that vintage similar to Ford's C series.
