dragcavy Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 just thought id update everyone on the progress of this build. Just waiting on slixx decals to come in to finish up the details. check the photos below.
1320wayne Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Looks good Darren. The paint finish came out great. Maybe some closer pictures of the engine detail.
gasser59 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I like. I'm sure I would like it even more if I could see more pictures. LOL
dragcavy Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 .here is a shot from the side. engine was detailed with detail master PE, craft crush beads, various bead wire diameters and scratch styrine fuel blocks. i thought that the kit exhaust was small so i used brass tubing cut and bent to length.
dragcavy Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 from this side u can see the scratch made mags since the kit ones were too small. blower belts were made from painted tissue paper and soaked in a water/ white glue dilute to affix the ends. ignition boxes were scratch made and wired to the coils. throttle cable attached and linkage done as well. still need to finish the headers on this side
dragcavy Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 from here, scratch made wheelie bar, covered the stock kit chutes with some medical tape and ran the chute cables. still need to finish the release cables.
AZ Boy Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 That's real nice Darren! Great job so far. Can't wait to see it with decals.
Mooneyzs Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Darren... this looks great. Very Nice detail. Great build. I can't wait to see more.
gasser59 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I'm loving all this scratchbuilding. Top notch stuff here Darren. Thanks for postiing add'l pictures and I just knew this was going to be good. Keep plugging away, we're following along.
Dragline Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 This is coming out superb bro. Love all the details and am glad you posted up close n personal pics. Should be a show stopper when completed. Bob
dragcavy Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 thanks for all the positive feedback. 2 months in the making. I cant wait to add the decals, just have to be patient since there is such a backlog of orders from slixx. once this is done ill be starting a multi build of 2 more rails. Cory mac's air hogs 2005 dragster and Melanie Troxel's POW MIA 2007 dragster. Im also trying to acquire all i need for j Morgan's lucas pro stock so i should be busy for awhile. So far i have gibsons pro stock engine kit and slixx decals. will have to get the stratus CR body and base kit.
NitroJunky Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) Looking good very impressed with the engine detail. did they run wheelie bars in the NHRA back in 99? reason i ask i dont think they come into force over here in the FIA until couple of years ago. Look forward to seeing more of this one. Edited March 4, 2012 by NitroJunky
1320wayne Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 They were in use in the late 90's. Some teams chose not to run them but quite a few did.
tyrone Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 very nice looking build Darren the detailing is clean, and just right... keep us posted...
dragcavy Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 well decals finally came in this week and have been on this for the past 2 days. Should have this buttoned up by the weekend and cleared. There are a few odds and ends to complete but nothing major. I think this was a great looking scheme for its time.
dragcavy Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 well thanks wayne and all the other positive feedback. I couldn't have done it without the help of you and others on this forum. Im sure as time goes on with other builds i will still have many questions. thanks to all
