Check it out fellas the 69 promod body from TDR/Shape ways showed up on my door step today.

Let me say first off the scale & design is outstanding The Body lines are crisp and all there. the thickness is the closest Ive seen to scale yet. It comes in 5 pieces main body, hood and fenders, two doors and trunk lid. Now because it is developed from a 3D printer it comes to you a tad bit grainy to the touch , but with some careful (and I mean very careful) body work this little puppy can be work into a champion. Keep in mind that because of that this body isnt for the beginner , im probably gonna put atleast 20 hours into it to get it paintable. the price tag weighs in at about $191.00 shipped. So if you buy one please dont expect to get a Revell quality boby (actually this is better IMO) and be ready to get down and dusty.

Congrats!! First one on your block I'm sure. Thanks for the honest apprasial. It's a tough call for me. I like it for the technology, thinness, bodycut lines, symmetry, etc, but it's also my least fave real life Promod body along with the Mustang. Too modern for me. I love it but don't crave it. There dosen't seem to be any recess perimeter for window glass..... is there? Decals for the front grill will be a challenge. I've got a few hundred at least already invested. This body will put it over$500!! I look forward to seeing it's footprint/outline on graph paper and your talent as a builder.

Congrats Romell, I got mine today as well! I have to say it looks great, one thing I did notice is the thickness of the door and the flush mounting lips around the door and windows is almost completely invisible in some area's. This is going to take some very delicate and time consuming time to file down and get the lip the same in all area's.

In 1/16" the doors protrude out just a bit due to the lip not coming out quite right from the printer, but an easy fix with a square block and some patience. I have to say though this is probably one of the best bodies to date, and the only one that is accurate for door/front clip lines the way they all meet up!

This one will set to the side and collect dust on the box top while I purchase the parts I want to complete it!

hey Jack the window perimeter is there but it's in scale so that makes it very thin and shallow. $500.00 I stopped counting at $900.00 and that was a long time ago lol!

glad to hear the camaro has arrived. i'm certainly glad to hear it has passed inspection for the most part. it will be exciting to see everyone's concept's and different ideas emerge on this, as each car makes the transition from pile"o" parts to completed model.

sorry to hear it's not your favorite car, jack. the good thing is ANYONE can get TDR to produce a body. if there is one out there that better suits your tastes, call them up and see what it takes to get it produced. you may be pleasently surprised.

Are you sure you want to put that in writing?? Plausible deniability is a good thing...... B)

Well I'm not trying to put out any negative vibes out there...Thank You for drawing this up and giving us a choice. Perhaps I'm tryin to rationalize the pro & cons before I buy one anyway. It allows me to pretend like I'm a reasonsible adult.

i didn't take it as a negative vibe thing jack. it's alot of money to dish out for a model car..... and if it's not your favorite, why buy it? i'll admit it's not my all time favorite but, it's in my top 5. i plan on doing some more in the future and i just wanted to let people know the door is open for your favorite car to come to life.

hey, who wants to be a resonable adult? i just wanna be a toys "r" us kid!!!!!!!

Rom... totally awesome man!! So I take it this is next on your build list after you are done with the Daytona?? ;) . I seriously need to order one of these bodies. Dave thanks for taking the time to develop these parts with TDR. I can't wait until you get the carbs over to them. I know I will be picking those up for sure.

Ok Rom... I gotta know what are your plans for Shoes for this puppy???? Very curious to see what you have in mind, as I have already been running through my options for something different than what has already been done.

As for your scale, help me understand what constitutes your ratings for "In Scale, Price and Buildabiltiy"?

Myself, if I was building a body out of styrene with minimal use of Bondo I wouldn't charge any less than the price from TDR. I find that this is a very respectable price knowing it takes 2 cars to build one if you could come up with a 69 camaro in 1/16th scale.

And where did you have our car shipped to "Kingdom Kum"? That is roughly $15.00 more than I paid.

Well lets see. 9 is the highest grade I could give it considering nothing is perfect. The price is a good one for those who can afford it. I rated it a 4 because I figure thats close to half of the 9. You must keep in mind not everyone is gonna want to pay close to 200 bucks for a model body. This is like caviar its an aquired taste. And as far as shipping goes I had mine sent to the West Coast. it wasnt shipping it was tax. everything ships from them for $6.50 anywhere in the USA.

Thanks ROM that helps me understand how your scale system works based on what you posted.

Very interesting, so then going to Cali they charge you tax! Note to self don't move there.... Because I was only charged the $170 plus the shipping.

I guess you are right, everyone has different price points they are willing to pay. Would I classify this body as caviar? I don't think so. I guess it really comes down to knowing how much time and money one would put into buying two models just to build a pro mod the appropriate way in this scale.

Bart You my friend Like myself are a connoisseur of model building which is the reason why we put down the money to buy this outstanding body.

i haven't gotten a reply on the other post. so, i'll ask the question differently here. do you guys feel the body from TDR was a worth while investment. the answers i get will help determine if i ever do this again.

Dave... I will answer your question. From what I can see the from the couple different threads on this new body, I think it is worth it. I myself am planning on buying one. I just haven't done it yet. The process of being able to have these made with a rapid prototype machine is awesome. People have to understand that there is going to be a little bit of extra work into prepping the body. I have ordered from TDR a bunch of parts and got them. The detail is awesome in these things and seeing the way that the surface finish is on some of them it doesn't seem like there will be too much prepping for the body. Yes there will be some sanding to smooth the body out and I am thinking one could also after initial sanding, you could lay a skim coat of bondo down and sand some more and you should be good to go. Then primer can be laid down and the body be guide coated and blocked out.

Let me also say Dave... that I thank you for all that you have gone thru to have this body developed. I think that this will be the most realistic body on the market. Thank you again.

Dave dont get me wrong at all I think this body is outstanding would I buy another? You bet I will!! Will I buy the next one you design??? Yes sir!! I only want to stress to people to be prepaired to do body work . Was it worth the money I spent on it?? Yes every cent. B)

Dave I haven't posted any pictures but I have to say it is definitely worth every penny. As ROM stated, you will have some shell out the money and some will complain about the price being to expensive.

Knowing the amount of time it would take to build one from scratch, I have to say the price is very reasonable.

Now not sure if it is my body or the reduction in size that caused it. But the front clip seems to be out of alignment. Not sure if it is the bracing pushing up on the a pillars... But other that that and the discussion of the bit of body work is very minor.

All in all, I appreciate the work put into this body to get it into production.

thanks for the straight forward replies. it would be silly to go forward and try another one in the future if the general concensus is, they weren't worth it.

OMG ! :o

Saved my enthusiasm for the relevant thread. :)

Rom, these new bodies look absolutely wickedly awesomely fantastico bro  ........(thank you Dave and Tim)

Your appraisal and honest opinion on the kit is truly appreciated, I thank you for that.

Still yet to place my order, but I'm truly torn now.... :( do I go ahead with another 1/12 build, or get the 1/16, so I can build with you guys...??

(probably end up with both if my heart wins out, but @ 400 big ones, the 1/12 is still a ways off.... :( )
