crazyjim Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 It's been some time since this was promised, so here we go. I use .080 Evergreen rod, brass wire, shrink wrap tubing, CA glue, and telephone wire. Cut 9 pieces of telephone wire in your choice of color. CA glue the brass wire into distributor and cut to size. Leave the copper wire in the jacket. I made the telephone wire longer than I would normally to try a new twist. The old way was to cut the telephone the same length as the distributor body. By making telephone wire longer, I plan to eliminate the need for ignition wire boots. Coil wire is already glued in. CA glue 2 pieces of telephone wire on opposite sides of the distributor body. CA glue 2 more evenly spaced. Keep going around until all 8 pieces are attached. After the CA glue dries, slip a piece of shrink wrap tubing up from the bottom. Heat up the shrink wrap. Let it cool and you're done. Correct firing order can easily be achieved with careful alignment when gluing the distributor into the intake manifold.
Jdurg Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 That looks awesome. Once I finish my '88 Vette and have a model year that shows the distributor, I'll be coming back to this!
crazyjim Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 I agree Justin. They make a pretty good looking distributor that are easy to fabricate.
fatkidd Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Great tutorial, Jim. One question...why does it look so much easier when you do it? haha
crazyjim Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 Because the pics don't show the little wire pieces flying all over the shop or sticking to the tweezers. I love those distributors and you get all the credit, Fatkidd.
