sportandmiah Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 This is your first post? What are we looking at?
Bartster Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Very interesting mix of custom & pro-street styles. Personally, I think it's a shame to cover those nice meats with skirts, but it's cool enough for me to follow.
ONEDUDE Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Yeah it's a shame but that's how i'd roll... Maybe diff color wasn't sold on the moon roof
Jantrix Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 It's the shaved everything part that bothers me. All body lines, all window trim, trunk lid, wheel wells or skirts. Everything that makes it look like a car is gone. I'm sorry but I just don't care for it.
62rebel Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 well; since you asked... the concept of radically smoothing every contour away wouldn't be out of place except for the cutting in of the moonroof, losing a whole plane of surface that breaks up the flow. the pro-street hoodscoop does the same thing, interrupts the flow of the body. a shorter, more integrated scoop would be better IMHO. the pro-street chassis, engine, and wheels/tires seem incongruous to a custom so radical, especially with the rear tires hidden. what i see is a near-Funny car; neither a dragster nor a true custom.... a Street Freak, possibly, except those are readily identifiable as the car they're based on. remember; whatever WE say or think means NOTHING if you're happy and satisfied and comfortable with the finished product. it's YOUR imagination and build.... BTW i've seen a LOT of bodies smoothed out so much that the original source is hard to pinpoint; it was popular in the '80's and a LOT of guys did WILD paint jobs on them. keep it up! show us another one!
ONEDUDE Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Thanks for the feed back Curt. The top piece changeable to hard top. This is my first model Thinking about making suicide doors??? Perhaps a openable trunk
62rebel Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 first model? first CAR model? weeelllll now... for a first timer that's a pretty good job. if i might suggest, join the Jalopy Journal HAMB and read through the stuff there. it is LITERALLY chock full of great ideas, reference material, and just plain old fashioned HOT RODS with a liberal sprinkling of customs. another great reference is Dave's Show Rods site, and the Model Car Museum, linked through Dave's site as well. there's the Custom Car Clinic, which has a scale model section, too. don't let my feedback serve to limit you in any way; i have my own conceptions (and misconceptions!) about how certain cars should look... use your own judgement and imagination.
Bartster Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I may get bashed here, but....I think your onto something. This doesn't fit into any comfy little "pigeon hole" and sometimes people are put off by new ideas. That's why we see so many Mercs & Fords with flatheads & WWW tires(which I love). I, for one, would enjoy seeing where you take this!
ONEDUDE Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Thanks... I just dremeled a trunk and doors.. All cuts r straight. Jus time now
ONEDUDE Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Yeah, I was never one to drive between the lines.
ARTEMIS1759 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) Since you are going as far as you have for smoothing, I personally don't like them but I would try either canted quad or SLK Mercedes headlights or even the front fender tips of the 1950 Studebaker bullet nose. The rear 1/4's I would put in some type of vent to break up the slab just in front of where the fender wells should be. Tail lights I would maybe somehow integrate them so they are painted body color but fully functional. I would definately come up with a different scoop. Maybe put together a few sheets of plastic and carve one that matches the lines or maybe cut the one down you are using. Edited March 20, 2012 by ARTEMIS1759
ARTEMIS1759 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Check this out for a few ideas. It is a 42 Chevy 4 door but some ideas?
62rebel Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 the typical over-smoothed build from the '80's had no roll-under at the rocker panels, as if it were literally melting onto the pavement. bring your rocker panels/quarters under a bit.
ONEDUDE Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 I decided to go with a flat hood. So flat n out the roll and put more of a 45 angle? Flat Black. I decided to raise it so u can see the slicks. A little more of an off set. Would you deck out the trunk or leave the tubs showing?
62rebel Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 trunk, i'd leave in aluminum with that Nova frame. keep the power theme consistent.
Lunajammer Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Has the body been dipped or coated with something? It's not just smooth, it's quite filled in, as seen in the front end shots. It's more than putty, sanding and painting isn't it?
ONEDUDE Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 I added a bottom clip and filled it in with bondo then shaped it. I decided to have a clean bumper.
tooltas Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 i did on amt merc on 69 super bee pro street kit so i can use hemi in there it fit under the 49 merc hood something u dont see a 49 merc thats not a custom
Jantrix Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 i did on amt merc on 69 super bee pro street kit so i can use hemi in there it fit under the 49 merc hood something u dont see a 49 merc thats not a custom Allow me to translate. "I built an AMT '49 Merc and used the pro-street chassis from a '69 Superbee kit, which made it easy to use a hemi engine. Which is something you don't see often because most people build '49 Mercs as customs."
