charlie8575 Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 This video was sent to me by one of the guys in MassCar earlier today. An MIT professor taped a drive through Boston and surrounding cities and towns in 1964. This video goes through Boston, and several of its neighborhoods, including Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, South Boston, Allston-Brighton, and Back Bay, as well as the City of Cambridge and the Town of Brookline. Lots of neat cars to look at and buildings to inspire diorama ideas. Enjoy. Charlie Larkin http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3220410482291
Erik Smith Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Oh, how cool. Let's see, is that a Fury out in front near the beginning? Lots of Impalas, a Divco milk truck, Corvair, 57? Buick pulling out in front of the camera, Valiant, quite a few Bugs, oh, nice Impala convertible...so cool to see all the "before my time" cars on the road. Boston is a great town too - great walking city and, apparently, a great driving city back in '64. Isn't that a '65 Galaxie at 4:58? Is this the same year they started the Big Dig?
charlie8575 Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 Is this the same year they started the Big Dig? No....it just seemed like it sometimes. Did you also catch the several Dart and Valiant wagons, which were quite common around here? Charlie Larkin
Eshaver Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 With the exception of the overall Graininess and the jumping , nice . Ed Shaver
Foxer Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 What I enjoyed was the almost complete lack of pickup trucks!
charlie8575 Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 (edited) Now that was a trip! Great video. Amazing how the scenery along Storrow and Memorial Drive hasn't really changed that much in almost 50 years. Very true, then again, with most of that under state reservation, it probably won't change all that much either. Although as you go along Storrow Drive now, there are some newer buildings on the other side of the Charles River in Cambridge. I think it's still one of the nicest city drives anywhere in the country, though. Dad had observed, though, how much the rest of the city and its surrounding communities have changed, though. I'm still not certain if it was for the better or not. What I enjoyed was the almost complete lack of pickup trucks! Hmmm...interesting point. I hadn't really thought about it until you said something. Charlie Larkin Edited March 22, 2012 by charlie8575
Maindrian Pace Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I'd say 1966, judging by the white '65.5 Mustang fastback. -MJS
