Hello all,

I've been lurking here for about a year without a post, but, have a question on stripping duplicolor of a body that has me stumped.

I have a body with a failed duplicolor job (severe orange peel) and I've tried 90% alcohol, the purple pond, and dot3 fluid, and even DPD,

the only thing that has happened to the paint is it has become gummy. Easy off did absolutely nothing to it.

It is still too hard to get off without anything but a fingernail. This has spent about 2 weeks in each of the fluids.

Any other ideas on stripping this off or should I just round file the body? The paint does not harden back up at all so sanding it out of the

question.

Thanks for all your help

Steve

I just realized the typo....that is 92% alky, not 90.

Where can I find 97%? That is almost straight denatured alky...

I have had good luck stripping Dupli-Color by doing the following. Lightly sand a few spots down to the primer and, then soak in Purple Power. By breaking the surface it allows the stripper to start getting under the paint and, loosening the primer. It will still take a bit of a soaking and, scrubbing to get it off but, should work.

Kris is right. Some cleaners CAN'T penetrate the top color, so,if you take some of the paint off down to bare plastic, it gives the cleaner a "foothold" so to speak, and it'll begin to eat thru the paint UNDERNEATH the top color. Give it a day or two to sit in it, and it should work. :D;)

Yep, I third that. Give the chemical a chance to attack the primer and after a while it will slough off like a snake skin.

If You have a Costco or Sam's warehouse near, try getting the degreaser that comes in a black plastic gallon. This stuff will tear your skin up, so use gloves with it.. It only cost something like 3 bucks.
