My brother inlaw is not a patient dude, him building models often made me cringe or laugh my ass off. This build was a combination of the two. After buying up a dozen of so kits and jumping straight into hacking and wacking (hes a car guy in his 30s)I've ended up fixing or receiving the remains of many of them. This one he laid the HOK lacquers on a little hot which crazed the plastic a bit, but the funny thing to me was he put the body in a warm gas oven to speed up the drying time.......... of lacquer  how impatient do you have to be ? lol to his credit as soon as it started to droop he pulled it out and threw it in the sink. Now most of it wasnt to bad but the boot and left rear qtr were pretty munted, so what to do? by the way it looks better in pics than reality

DSCF8013.jpg so I've started on a workshop resto of sorts. The qtr is off the drivers door and boot are off and I'm starting on all the interior sheet metal bracing, you know the stuff you never see usually. The right rear qtr has been rusted out as has the sills, new back panel welded in place will give it a new right front qtr in black from the parts shop. It will eventually end up in a workshop dio

the tulip panel is probably going to come off as well, also thinking about giving it a vinyl top

fast forward two weeks to yesterday

got a bit more done on this, have to make up the inner skins for both doors now. Undecided whether to put it on a rotisserie or on weathered drive train. the engine and trans will be out of the car so will entail a fair bit of weathering and detailing to make it look good but my emphasis is to get the body done first

theres a few pics, just trying to show some of the details better as well as the overall shots

Brett, that looks very interesting all junked up and quartered like that. It's a piece that could be a great as part of a larger diorama or scene.

That will look great on a diorama. good way to save an otherwise junk model. your rust looks good but needs some color variation to liven it up a bit (some dark rust around the holes and where the moisture tends to collect),. that will stop it looking like dried mud.

thanks guys, hearts not been into much lately but I've done a little more on this one. Worked on the rust already there trying to get it a little more realistic and cut out the molded in battery and made a rusty battery box for it instead

This is too cool, Brett! I'm not into rusty builds, but what else could you do? Very nice save. Excellent under body detail. I'm impressed.
