Dr. Cranky Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I'm surprised nobody has come up with a good A.F. moment so far today? Also, for those of you who remember all those wonderful special A.F. issues of the magazines, feel free to post your favorite. Happy A.F., everyone!
Austin T Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I fell for the old "Clearview 2000" in a old 1990 April SAE a few weeks ago.

Wagoneer81 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) Several years ago, in Model Railroader, there was an article about a group that built No-Trak modules... The premise was that the group modeled abandoned right-of-ways that had been converted into bike and walking trails... I mean, how inexpensive would a bunch of PE brass bicycles be compared to HO scale brass engines? Tony Koester and the MRR crew actually built an HO scale abandoned right of way module for pictures for the article... complete with PE brass bicycles and hikers... Austin T, I 'Clearly' remember the Clearview 2000 article! Wasn't that in the same issue as the 'Plastic as an Investment' article? Edited April 1, 2012 by Wagoneer81
Joe Handley Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I seem to remember the anti-plastid insectiside article one year too.
Lownslow Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 was gonna post something but theres always a butthurt member that will cry wolf
diymirage Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 found this in my inbox today GermanAutoParts.com Introduces Psychic Parts Network We take pride in always shipping out orders as fast as possible. Over the past couple of years we have introduced new services such as "Parts by Fax" and "Yesterday Air." It has become clear that sometimes these methods are simply not FAST ENOUGH! This year we have really outdone ourselves by providing an industry first PSYCHIC PARTS NETWORK. Don't be alarmed if a box of parts shows up at your house that you didn't order. Simply put the box in your trunk and forget about it. A few days after delivery when your car suddenly breaks, rest assured knowing you already have the parts to fix the problem. -----------------------------Happy April Fools Day from everyone at GermanAutoParts.com-----------------------------
Rob Hall Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 The best ones I've seen today were the Google Racing announcement (autonomous driverless car for NASCAR) and the Danica Patrick 5 yr $100m contract w/ Steward-Haas announcement...
LDO Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 A few years ago, the LHS owner told me that several customers had been asking for carbon fiber spray paint seen in an April Fools ad. I believe that was in Model Cars Magazine.

Actually, either one of those would not surprise me !!! Being that napcar has become so much of a joke, they'd do anything for the " show " !!!!

Qwit Pushin Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 About 10 years ago, here in Sacramento, a local radio station was issuing warnings to listeners that AT&T would be cleaning out the phone lines at 10:00 am that morning. They advised that everyone place their phones in a trash receptacle and cover it with a blanket, as the phone service provider was going to blast a very high PSI charge of air through the lines to clear them out and it would create an overwhelming amount of dust in the air. From what I hear quite a few folks got reeled in on that one.
1320wayne Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I don't remember which year of MCM (I have the issue somewhere in my collection) but when the Buick Roadmaster Woody kit was announced I was all excited until I realized that it was a joke.
