Agent G Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Yes I do build cars. Occasionally, and with much forethought. It took a year to open the second kit I purchased when this one came out. Waiting six years, and receiving what I think is a half-azzed attempt really burned me. My first is still unfinished, sitting on the shelf waiting for the odd bit here and there. I just gave up after the frustration overwhelmed me. It does look good when finished, but getting there is a battle. More than I think it should be for a "new" release. No pics yet, but here's a clue detective. G
The70judgeman Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Slick top CHiP's...eh. Lindberg model? I have the "blank" version of that kit with the 8 lightbar options.
Danno Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Uhhhhhh ..... a po-lease car of some sort? Like Gomer said to his sergeant: 'That's slick, Top!' -
martinfan5 Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Cant wait to see this one G, I have always liked the CHP B/W slicks, and I think the slick top Chargers look really good, and now for some strange reason, I hear the CHiP'S theme song playing
Agent G Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 I really despise this kit, that said I wanted to use it in some fashion. I googled "CHP Charger" and got five pages of goodness. Hmmmm, now I know where it will be going. Dumm dumm da dumm dumm, da da da, da-da, da deet deet.......................... G
Agent G Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 Some progress. Avert your gaze Jonathan, that really is a NASCAR chassis with a machine gun ring mounted on top. G
Agent G Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 A little bit more. White primer under the white, black primer under the black. We've been having the perfect painting weather here. G
martinfan5 Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 The NASCAR chassis with the machine gun is cool, I want to see that one too, you are building that for the zombie CBP right? . Why do you despise the charger kit?, its a really nice kit, nice detail, it can be pain getting the body on to the chassis .
Agent G Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 It's a zombiechaser for sure. When you have a day or so I'll explain how the Lindbergh Charger kit shortened my life. Desert Classic will be the perfect time. I'll even buy. G

martinfan5 Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Yep thats white, what are you using?, can or A/B?
Agent G Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 Thank you Augie! Jonathan that's Valspar white laquer from a can. I scored a can each of black and white for little $$ and have been using them and a can of clear for over a year now. G
Danno Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Ahhhh, my brother from another mother! You use the same High-Tech Parts Holder for painting that I do! The best part of the whole procedure is preparing the HTPH for use ... For you others, the uninformed ... The procedure may be tedious, but it's great when you're painting several bodies! Preparation Process Tutorial: First you take the HTPH out of the fridge ... then you detach the sealing device on top ... then you drain the pesky contents into your built-in, onboard holding tank (stomach) ... then you fill the HTPH with a small quantity of kitchen tap hydrology juice (water) ... then refit the sealing device ... then afix doublesided tape to the top surface of the sealing device ... and finally, stick the body on top. Shoot some paint, then go back to the fridge, acquire another HTPH and repeat.
martinfan5 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I use empty, or in some case's full cans of krylon spray to hold the bodys, I have found that its the only thing krylon paint is good for . I have heard people having mixed results using Valspar paints on models, looks like its working for you, I may have to pick a can up next time I am at a hardware store.
Agent G Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 These Valspar laquers work well for me during those optimum weather times. A bit hotter or a bit cooler and all is lost. As it is I spray a good coat, allow it to set up indoors for a bit, then place in direct sunshine for that "Baked On" finish. Danno you narrated the procedure to a " T ". Looks like we have the requisite experience to properly handle these HTPH devices. Ok back to work, I just got back from the holdover. Not filming Las Vegas Jailhouse today, which was a shame, lotsa good loonies in the intake area. G
martinfan5 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) If you dont have plans for any of the lightbars that come with this kit, can I get one of them from you?. So Valspar paint is very weather sensitive I take it, good to know, HTPH? Edit, I have learned, ok well no because I still do it, but if you put the front and rear bumper piece's on before the body and chassis are one, it makes very hard to get the two together, and most of the times, the front bumper piece comes off. I would like to find an image of a 1:1 police car computer screen and then scale it down to fit the computer screen in the kit. Edited April 6, 2012 by martinfan5
Agent G Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 (edited) Work intervened during the week, but I accomplished quite a bit today. The interior is painted and drybrushed to look less "flat". The kit shifter pinged off my tweezers and flew into oblivion. I made a new one that's more to scale. G Edited April 9, 2012 by Agent G
RodneyBad Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Paint looks Awesome. I love the old Black and Whites. Ya can always see them coming..
martinfan5 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Looking good, going for the worn look for the interior, the six chargers I built, I think I broke half of the shifters either trying to get the of the tree, or putting them on the dash.

Agent G Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 The weather is ready to take a dump here, so I painted as much as possible in the past two days. Now I can concentrate on assembly. I did some scratch building, and kit part modifications to better replicate a CHP Charger. Pics shortly, camera is charging. G
