I was really trying not to start another thread. I've searched this site for at least a week using various search words and didnt find what i was looking for.

Any, I am working on my 09 Dodge Challenger, and decided to cut the top figuring i could scratchbuild a convertible top boot. I could've sworn I saw something on the net in some fashion a couple years ago, but my searches on other sites that I frequent didnt yield any results. Anyway, has anyone successfully scratchbuilt one?

I've looked at a few pics of the 1:1 car I am trying to replicate as well as some model car manuals i've found online. I have one started, I just have to sand it down and see what the end result is going to be but if anyone could share any tips, I would be very grateful.

Kevin, MAYBE you can use the boot from the AMT/Ertl 70 Challenger? It comes with a convertable boot in case you build it as one. Hth. :D

possibly...that would probably require me trying to hunt one down though right? I'm trying to see about scratchbuilding one as I have the materials at my disposal. If mine comes out good, I will definitely do a tutorial on how i did it, but just trying to see if one exists already.

Thanks though George

I'm not trying to be a wise guy,but... A long time ago when billett aluminum parts were just coming in to play, John Buttera was showing off his latest rod and someone asked him how he made the outside rear view mirror. John was said to have replied, I took a piece of aluminum and cut away everything that didn't look like a mirror.

Fwiw the amt challenger boot is incorrect, Google in images 1970 Dodge Challenger convertible and you'll see what I mean.

I have a Triumph TR4A on the bench that also needed a convertible boot . I ended up using the boot from a '51 Chevy as it was available and fit the area I needed. The width was cut down and now it's getting shaped with files and sandpaper. Not exactly a tutorial, but one way it got (getting) done. The page I linked shows the boot.
