Lunajammer Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I never think of this until I'm in the middle of it. How long after painting do you remove your masking? Too soon you get a gummy edge. A little longer you might pull up soft paint. Too long it chips. Scoring with a knife in detail areas undermines the detail of the masking.
moparmagiclives Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 To many variables, practice, practice, practice !! What are you using for paint? Primer? Tape? Temp?

I only use lacquers and enamels reduced with lacquer thinners so as soon as the paint has flashed off I carefully get the tape out of there. This is one of those things that you really need to practice to find what works for yourself as different paints and tapes will behave differently
jaymcminn Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 ASAP. There's no benefit to leaving the masking material on any longer than absolutely necessary- in fact, it's easier to remove any stray overspray (not that I ever get any of that!) before the paint is fully cured. That's the benefit to using lacquers (I also use acrylics for flat paints)- they flash over by the time I've got my airbrush cleaned!
Guest Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I pull mine off as soon as I'm done spraying the paint.
jaydar Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 not later than when i finish cleaning the airbrush. joe.
