Helix Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Guys, I'm a newbie here, thought I'd show you a project which is getting there slowly. It's an old AMT kit, but with an updated chassis done by a good forum mate 'cool hand' Here's some progress pics, I'm hoping to get this one completed over the next month or so, the only downside is my work keeps me away from the bench, this project now at 18 months
Badluck 13 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Aww Ray that is just sweet lookin'!!!!,I like your lil' dio touch in the last pic.....
Helix Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 Thanks Mike, Yeah gotta love the Fujimi Garage kit, gives your builds a nice touch when taking pics
RodneyBad Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Great looking chassis, Engine and Truck. Will look Fantastic when completed..

Helix Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 Thanks Rod and Zac, Zac, 18 months is too long for my liking, wanna get this finished was working on the interior last night and thought about a RHD conversion see what happens here...
gautreau Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Great lookin build!Keep the progress pics coming.I want to build something similar to this someday when I find 1.
mopar68 Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm two years and counting with the Camaro, or three... Yea go with the RHD conversion, it's going so well it couldn't hurt to go just a little further
Helix Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 Thanks Jeremy! Zac, started the dash conversion last night, so far so good, pics to follow
Guest Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 This is going to be a cool looking old Ford truck! That chassis is awesome! I never will understand why AMT made this kit as a "Camper Special" instead of a regular long wheel base.
Helix Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 Cheers Roger, yep was a rare find in my local hobby store, they had a heap of old kits, average price was $20au, they even had some old nascar kits which didn't last long ! When I finish this kit, it will be towing the Galaxie '24 tag along trailer, something I need to get started
krazyglu Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Holy smokes that chassis is a work of art, Cool Hand really did a amazing job with the linkages and air bag shocks. If its possible could you get a closer shot of the front suspension showing the air shock and tubular drop spindles, you will have to use the little flower icon on your camera called the macro function to get tight clear shots. I like the color choice and the wheel's. Sounds really cool pulling a Galaxie trailer, I just picked up the 38' goose neck for a little dio I am working on.
Cool Hand Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 As you know,Im really looking foward to seeing this completed.
Helix Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Cheers for the comments guys, will post macro pics for krazyglu soon Hey luke, undergoing a dash conversion to RHD now
Helix Posted June 10, 2012 Author Posted June 10, 2012 Small update guys, Some close up pics of the suspension and the dash conversion, heaps more work to do on the dash. I'm updating the interior as well, opted for Mustang Boss seats instead of the bench seat. Special thanks to 'Coolhand' for the chassis/suspension, just awesome.
Cool Hand Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Dash conversion looking good so far. The body is really starting to take shape now. And I return the thanks for asking me to build the chassis, because at that time I was in a slump and had no motivation to build. But by doing that chassis for you it snapped me out of the slump. Cheers mate
Platerpants Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 not one for custom rims on a 1 ton but still a cool build
mopar68 Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Oh yea loving this! Once again Luke the work you did on that chassis is amazing!
Helix Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 Thanks guys, forgot to say this is my first go at a two-tone paint job, all the trim is BMF, which was very challenging
