vintagestang Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Does anyone make a '71 Ranchero? Revell, AMT, MPC?
Rob Hall Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Nope. No Ranchero of that era has been kitted. There were a couple resin kits about a decade ago, though.
george 53 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Jeff Ballard of Motor City Resins (part of DRAG) has a 72 Ranchero that's a GREAT trans kit. MAYBE you could use the body from his and adapt the 71 Torino kit's front end to it. Might be worth a try.

george 53 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Thanks Harold, I honestly didn't know that.(I'm not really a Ford guy )
vintagestang Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 I'm gonna get a Monogram '70 Torino GT and kit bash with the AMT '65 El Camino.
TooOld Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 I'm currently building a '72 Ranchero from Motor City Resins and it is indeed a nice kit . I'm using the Revell '70 Torino GT as a donor kit and reworking the chassis to a full frame . If you grafted the front body of the Torino onto the Ranchero , the rest of the Torino kit would be perfect and give you the correct unitized frame with no modification required ! The differences between a 70 and a 71 are hardly worth worrying about .
vintagestang Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 I didn't think about that but the kit from Motor City Resins is to expensive for me. Does the Revell Torino come with a grille without lights or just one with lights?
TooOld Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 I misspoke . I'm using a Monogram '70 Torino GT , and it has a full grille ( hideaway headlights ) .
vintagestang Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 Oh OK. Where can I get the Torino besides E-bay?

Probably easier to scratchbuild, though...the Ranchero-specific parts (roof, bed, rear quarters, taillgate) of the '72 look nothing like the '70-71. The '70/71 and '72-76 Torinos and Rancheros have no panels in common, I think.. One of the resin casters (it may have been Mini Exotics) did make a '70-71 Ranchero back around 2000, probably hard to find now... Edited June 19, 2012 by Rob Hall

I forgot the rear sheet metal IS different between '71 and '72 . Thanks for correcting me . Edited June 19, 2012 by TooOld
Rob Hall Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Can someone answer my last question? Well, it's an out of production kit, so besides eBay you might want to check online kit vendors that sell out of production kits.
